I have a VW Passat 2013 2.0 Tdi that will not start. Purchased a Crankshaft Position Sensor. Not sure where it is on this vehicle.

Charles Howard says:

Hi Gerard. I hope Your keeping grand. Sadly it appears my camshaft sprocket remains pretty much dead centre. I also carried out disconnecting its position sensor but the engine refused to start. Any other ideas would be gratefully appreciated, should you be able to find the time. I have a multi meter, good tools, but that's about it. I'm assuming the issue is not the camshaft speed sensor itself, as these engines will run with this item disconnected. Many Thanks In Advance.

Charles Howard says:

You may have just have saved me a small fortune. I was losing hope to an extent. I drove the car parked it up, then it refuses to start that Evening. Servicing has been kept bang up to date. Interestingly its timing belt, and water pump were replaced only several weeks ago. It has been such an easy starter to date, and was seemingly running nicely. It delivered 65.2m.p.g running up to Morecambe and back to Cornwall. I've precious few pennies to replace the car with at this time. If Your advice pays off here Gerard I will really need to send you a decent drink Sir.. Thank You so very much for posting a clear concise video.

So unfortunate that the same engine but in Amarok 2013 2hB model the sensor connector is inaccessible :/
The connector is between the block and oil cooler by the looks. No possible to remove it without pulling the head.
How fucked.

I am having the same issue with a 2006 Jetta TDI with manual trans and 167,000 miles. Just this week when starting the car, it would start and run but I would hear a noise for a few seconds after start that sounded like the starter bendix was still engaged, lasting for 4-5 seconds. (installed new starter around 130,00) I think this is unrelated to the "no start" issue
This morning, the car would start and shut off after 3 or so seconds.
Now after a few attempts, it will turn over but not start.
I hooked up my Autel scan gauge and it would load to 98% and then say link failed. Did this numerous times.
Also when the key is in ignition and turned to the on position, after 10 or so seconds the cooling fans would come on at full speed. (this is with a cold engine).
I can not hear any relays clicking.
Ideas on where to start?

Luis Miguel Gamboa says:

Good video and very well explained.

Hugo Stiglitz says:

It’s a software fault from the factory, worn engines won’t start very well on amount of fuel delivered when hot

Steven Hyatt says:

My car only has difficulty staring when warm could this be the same issue?
