Thanks for posting this- My ’98 didn’t have that little lock for the
antenna, and the replacement radio did- so this video solved that little
mystery-it let me see how it was supposed to work-
@XSesshomaruX It’s probably in the trunk, to the left side. Its a black
box, that opens up to hold six CDs. Thats where mine is. However, it could
have been modified to be in a more convenient place, like behind the seats
or something.
Hola que tal, tengo un problema con mi stereo de mi beetle, un disco se
quedo atascado y no se como sacarlo de ahi, tengo que sacar toda la unidad
para abrirla completamente??
Where would I hook up the auxiliary adapter so I could connect an aux cord
to play music from? Like in the back of the radio, which would I plug it
into?
See the wire harness diagrams on the website, they may be helpful.
Depending on which connector is first, depending on top or bottom, one
connector can be three different colors and three different pieces snapped
together, this is usually the CD changer connector.
Great video. On reinstalling original head unit i cannot push the unit in
to its aperture as the wires and connectors are in the way behind? How do i
make enough space behind to push the head unit back all the way? thanks
Great vid, most of my doubts were solved but, what’s the first connector
for? Disc changer? I’ve installed some aftermarkets radio on other cars I
had and they only have the other 2 standard connectors. I’m thinking of
replacing myself the stock radio of my 2008 Beetle for a aftermarket Indash
DVD, would it be just plug n play or is there any trick? Thanks.
@boblizcou hi, thanks for answering. I didn’t remove it yet, it’s a VW CD
Player (not the one of your vid). I was talking about the first connector
you remove on your vid, the colored one. Because I’ve already changed the
players of other car I had, but none of them had this conector, just the
brown and the back connector you take off after the colored one.
Check your owner’s manual, it may be written in on one of the pages. There
is also a “Code Card” for the vehicle. It too may be in the folder with the
owner’s manual. And, in some cases, if the stereo has ever been removed
before, the code may be written on the stereo. If none of these apply, your
local dealership may supply the code given the serial number from the
stereo.
Found that 2 rapala fillet knives work in place of the keys. Put the flat
side of knife to outside, be careful when pulling radio out….they ARE
knives.

One section for this connector with color is for the add-on trunk or glove
box mounted CD changer.

I have found thiefs don’t use the tools, I have seen crow bars and chanin
saws taken to dashs. If a thief wants a stereo, an alarm will not stop them.
This is a theft deterrent.

@alquimistaeterno This is an issue I’ve seen on a rare occasion. The stereo
can still be removed, then reinstall the face.
