Thanks for the helpful video, just cleaned mine and got it working again.
Thanks for the helpful video!
Thank you so much for this. I took mine apart as you instructed, scratched
the contacts, sprayed with wd-40, dried it off with the hair dryer and it
is working perfectly now.
Thank YOU! This video just saved me a bunch of money in auto-expensive
Norway. Took it apart as shown, tightened the tension on the spring
contacts, scraped the contacts inside the relay, and also sprayed a little
cleaner in there. Works nicely now. Sometimes the internet is fantastic.
Thanks for the video. I took mine apart too and tried de-oxIT but it didn’t
work.I paid $30 for the part from local mom and pop store I support,
Winchester Auto. Five minute install and fixed. Phew. One difference was
mine has the seat warmers so I can to take out the blank below that, then
remove the seat heater and then then the hazard switch. Having all that out
of the way gave me more room. Thanks again
But I saw it before you….PRE PRODUCTION BABY!
I should have thought about going through Amazon if the relay was indeed
busted. The dealer part I saw was about 60 bucks. Hey they got a lot of
building, insurance, and car sales dudes to pay for. 18 dollars isn’t half
bad, but if you go to all the trouble of pulling the thing apart yourself,
it’s probably wise to try to do some contact cleaning before spending the
cash. Bravo !
Thank You! I bought the aftermarket relay from Amazon ($18) based on my
repair manual, then found your video. The switch came out, separated from
wiring harness easily, so I decided to try your repair on the old one. I
easily opened the relay case with the smallest of my electrical kit
screwdrivers, polished all contacts with wife’s emery board, and installed
back in car. Whole thing took 5 minutes, and it works perfectly. The
aftermarket switch worked great if anyone wants to go that route.
First!
This video was very helpful! Thanks!
Thanks! I just made this repair on my VW ’01 passat. It had the
intermittent clicking noise when I drive. It was difficult to get the relay
out as you did grip it with a pair of pliers. I broke some of its edges. My
relay had broken slide guides inside such that when the knob is pressed and
released, misalignment occurs. this results in it the clicking sound. I
have ordered a new relay from ebay at only $16 plus shipping. I hope it
solves the problem. I saved a great deal watching your video!
thanks, this works for me.
Ain’t Youtube fabulous? Something this obscure can be shared. I don’t mean
to put dealers out of business, but for the home tinkerer, and with money
being short, something like this can save a lot of needlessly spent money.
I know i’ve used videos to figure out oddball stuff I’ve never done before.
thanks for that, got my 2001 b5 apart and just sprayed contact cleaner in
there. works for now, will see how long
So far so good. I haven’t heard from the driver of the vehicle. So it must
still be working.
Hey you could have seen it during filming for all I know!
And the result is?

This worked for me as well. Thanks!
THANKS! I just used this procedure to fix my son’s blinker relay. Saved him
a $200 repair bill from the $tealer!
Just had the same on my B5 A4, I tried working the voodoo and it worked!!!
Will get some contact cleaner this weekend and do it again properly but it
seems this will get me to work and back for the rest of the week. Thanks!
Real Interesting huh? Someone has gone to work with the car and I told him
to “exercise” the turn signals to see if it’s not just a temporary fix. If
it holds up for a while I can declare victory.
Thanks for the helpful video!
