Is it good enough if you only put the piston back ? don’t you need to put
the air out of the oil-pipe ?

VWGenuineParts says:

They can be reused on a Golf but we would suggest changing them if you’re
concerned. Team VWGenuineParts.co.uk

We do of course state in our videos that we can’t take any responsibility
for your actions but it certainly sounds like you’re doing the right thing.
Follow the video or our static website guide and you’ll be fine 🙂

So, Don’t degrease the new disk ? Don’t grease the disk retaining screw ?(
to stop seizing ) Don’t wrap a rag around the resevoir to catch the fluid
when piston is pushed in ? (or use turkey baster to remove some fliud first
?) Thanks for vid anyway it all helps.

Hi there, Can you do a video on how to measure your brake discs etc.?
Because when I put my reg in some search engine, it comes up with different
sizes. Love your vids by the way,

I ask this question because it’s the first time i need to change the brake
pads on my mk 5. I did it before on my mk 4 & 3. But then when i needed to
change the brake pads i only pushed the piston back replaced the pads and
it was clear. But i was afraid that the mk 5 is different because it’s one
of 2008. So if you say it’s ok to push only the piston back and replace the
pads and nothing else i will be happy. So thank you for your help 😉

Hi, thanks for your question. Are you using a special tool to wind them
back? The tool doesn’t just compress the pistion, it rotates it at the same
time as the piston is on a screw thread. If you are using the correct tool
then I would suggest it is rusted up/gummed up with brake dust. Just try
and work it backwards and forwards carefully. You may have to pop it into
your local Volkswagen retailer for them to look at. Hope that helps.

The 14 mm spline caliper carrier bolts, I have heard that these cannot be
reused. I have also heard that that can be. Is it safe to reuse these bolts
or should they be replaced with new ones? Very good video, very informative.

Where did you buy the latex gloves ?

VWGenuineParts says:

Hi Lennonpolo, we’re delighted you enjoy our videos. Yes, we’d be pleased
to do a disc measuring one for you. Keep subscribed and look out for it
soon. Kindest regards, VWGenuineParts.co.uk

VWGenuineParts says:

Thank for your feedback and interest in the channel. There’s no need to
degrease the new disc – just make sure it’s free from any dirt transfer
while it’s being fitted. As far as the disc screw, we won’t advise applying
any lube. They don’t normal rust in and even if it did it would be a better
option that it coming out. We like your thought about the rag. Ideally, as
suggested at the start of the video, ensure enough fluid is removed so it
doesn’t overflow. Kindest regards, Team VWGenuineParts

I’m replacing my brakes pad and I can’t get the caliper piston to compress.
Is there something that I’m not doing or is it just seized from rust?
Thanks.

VWGenuineParts says:

Hello! Thanks for your question. There shouldn’t be any air in the brake
pipes – if there is you’d know as the brakes would feel terrible. Pushing
the piston back correctly as described will not induce air into the system.
If you do need to bleed the brakes we recommend this is done by a dealer as
you shouldn’t carry out a manual proceedure on modern Volkswagen vehicles.
Hope that helps! Kindest regards, VWGenuineParts.co.uk

FYI, The torque for the wheel lug nuts are 120Nm or 89 ft-lb

VWGenuineParts says:

We sell them in various sizes but you should be able to buy them from
hardware stores or motor factors. The ones we used are from Volkswagen and
are strong and a good fit. If you contact parts@vwgenuineparts.co.uk we can
supply them for you.
