Thanks. And you’re welcome!

Set the head on it’s exhaust studs on your work bench so the valves don’t get bent and install the cam and align the mark on the bench. You can take it back off for ease of install.

Sam Harris says:

Thanks Brian, one question, I have damaged valves and a different head was purchased, what is the best way to do the TDC since I cannot align before removing the old head, Thanks

Micscience says:

I would also like to note that the camshaft timing is perfectly aligned and so is the transmission flywheel tab for TDC on cyl. numbero uno.

I’m currently doing a 99 2.0 beetle. I’m confused where alldata says to turn back the crankshaft slightly. Now the crankshaft marking is off a tooth, maybe a tooth and a half and I’m a bit worried I have no idea why they say to do this. I was happy just leaving the crankshaft the way it was I didn’t move anything on the reinstall. I was thinking of putting it back in alignment was hoping you had any input. Thanks.

I have a question after i did timing belt and set tesioner i pulled on timing belt and the arrow on tensioner did move and belt felt looser.I cranked the engine over and belt got tight again and arrow on tensioner went back to were it was before i pulled on timing belt ? it that normal ?

Arthur Eng says:

I suspect my pump is bad but my thermostat opens at 87 degrees, because I flushed the system and my upper hose gets hot but when I squeeze it it feels like it has air. Car doesn’t overheat when driving/idling. Is a 2.0 golf. Fans quick in too. Any ideas? I’m not using Oem coolant.

genuineone62 says:

Check around for a shop that will do it with the parts you provide. I bought the whole kit from OEM parts and saved about $500 on the job and also replaced the thermostadt at the same time–was included with the kid including the coolant too–gotta use special coolant and only DISTILLED water. Great video by the way!

Luis Angon says:

My mechanic told me 450 with parts. He’s crazy, I rather do this on my own.

Hugo Linares says:

alexmtl1900 says:

Thx Brian. You help me a lot with your video… they should never do plastic propeller for a water pump… damn it!

Joe Corbett says:

Now that I have watched the video I will do it for $12000.

smarzouk82 says:

how much should a job like this cost with parts?

briansmobile1 says:

You’re welcome- thanks for that!

Thanks. Great videos!

May I ask if the Beetle is a 2.0 or 2.5 liter

Ted Evans says:

Awesome video. Keep the uploads coming. I purchased a 2004 VW Beetle GLS 2.0 4cyl. It is making a chirping sound. I am guessing it is the tension-er
