Tim Bourgault says:

Just had to change a battery on my 2014 Tiguan, the guys at the auto parts store totally freaked out saying you need to go to the dealership etc, did a little reasearch and picked up a VW specific ODB reader, and followed the steps, walk in the park. Thanks Charles I appreciate the great info, thanks for taking the scary out of simple fixes.

LUNArXpedtition says:

Current VW tech here, battery adaptations are needed on vehicles of 2018 and new (at time of writing) or any vehicle that has a negative peg on the firewall right above the battery (best seen at 3:52 with the yellow nut holding it down)
Super annoying that I can go from a 2017 Jetta just dropping a new battery in, to a 2023 Jetta needing an extra 30 minutes to connect to our ODIS diagnostics system, sign in to DSS, scan the battery and submit the GFF log.

A Black says:

I have 2015 Golf R, I have never had warning lights after I disconnect my battery is that something only for the mk7.5 and newer?

Dave in MD says:

Just a note. Advance Auto Parts is able to the battery reset. They started getting the extra module they needed about 6 months ago. So if you are buying a battery from them they can do the proper install.
And another note, Die Hard batteries are made by Clarios as well. There are only about three major manufacturers in the US, Clarios who used to be Johnson Controls, East Penn and Excide.

Steven S says:

Haha, +10hp for the body-coloured battery!

Apart from a new battery (or at least a charge up) is there any precautions to take before starting up a car that's sat for a year or two? 1.4 TSI if that makes a difference.

Brakes look like they could do with a bristle disc, but engine stuff is a little outside my skillset/knowledge.

Haytham BuKhadra says:

That's why I like older cars.
Modern ones are allergic to everything

nlz242 says:

My 8V S3 is about 7 years and a half now, still on the original battery (in canada, with the cold!) so I was starting to think about replacing it… timing on the release of this video is great!
Thanks again Charles for your videos, i follow you here and on Tiktok and I love your content and personality.

MUCKSPREADER1 says:

Great video.

Jim Hinds says:

Charles – you didn't (as I observe) do any 'cleaning' of the new battery posts or the inside of the POS/NEG terminals. A good idea? Or do it only if visually needs it? — And my two 2015 Jetta Hybrids batteries are original (trunk stored). 51K and 61K. One was tested last spring – no "need" to replace. Probably needs it, but with a the motor acting as starter, does the electric system in a hybrid put different stresses on the battery? TX for your many informative and engaging videos.

Mekanic says:

A lot of newer cars, not just the euros, are very sensitive to the battery voltage nowadays.

W Burger says:

Perhaps the time off allows for the petrol tank vacuum to actuate and validate?

rhesus says:

New cars are a maintenance nightmare to put it short.
They are nice ti drive while everything works. But if you don't have a lot of cash, I'd stick to older gen cars

MDA500 says:

Would using a battery memory saver plugged in the OBD port and using a slave battery prevent all those fault codes from appearing?

C C says:

And I believe if your ECU is flashed to stage 1, etc it will default back to factory program

nismo2070 says:

My Snap-on scan tool will do VW coding if it's in expert mode. Our shop's Autel scanner will do it too, but I have never used it for that. Great video!!!!! A lot of people do NOT understand what's involved when changing a battery in these newer vehicles.

c7 Corvette says:

Modern cars are so hard to work, that you probably can't even pop the hood

Bill Johnson says:

How far back does this need to be done, Charles? Is it necessary on my '12 GTI?

Robert Cox says:

Thanks for making this video Charles!

TM says:

Thanks Charles for the upload. I found vw/audi battery change is so much more different compare to benz or bmw on my first battery change xD
