I have 2017 gti and it my 1st volkswagen(always had japanese cars)..Everyone told me they are good cars but hard to regularly maintain.Gotta say ,so far basic maintenance on this car about the the or even easier than my acura rsx or cl. Im sure some things will be harder but so far pretty similar
i've been puzzled about how to replace the wipers for awhile… or how to make them stick up in case it's snowing so they dont' freeze to the windshield… finally i have my answers! VW is fancy as heck lol

Who changes blades when you can change the rubbers at 1/4 or less, of the cost?!!
BTW, I don't advise anyone to let the metal wiper arm rest on the windscreen while you're changing blades. It very often leaves a mark.
I just did this myself. You just tilt the blade away from the wiper. It just comes off easily. In this video its done wrong

Before I bought my golf r last year, watched few video reviews and few complain how almost impossible to change them without opening the hood lol
Some advice: you may want to wear mechanix or other thick gloves. Gouged out some flesh today while pulling the old wipers off, was a bloody mess. There was a secondary click after pressing the release button that held the wipers in place on the bracket, which required a bit of effort to pull off. If you pull the old wipers off by the hinge area, you'll risk contact with the metal brackets.

Hey DAP, I’ve been looking around for info on shaving 1 of the FRONT wipers, I saw people have done that so that the driver side wiper does kindof a 180 degree swipe across the whole windshield. I have a mk4 gti, is that possible for my car? Do you guys have any info you could give me on that? Thankyou!
