Hey long story short i bought a car and it has electrical problems. The guy
said these problems sre due to the fact that he got hit on the right back
door. The car is a 1997 vw golf. The back lights, the dashlights, and the
directional lights dont work. Could this be fuses? Thnx

kidstennislessons.com says:

2006 Passat wish you would have pointed out which fuse was the problem for
the 12v outlet (cig. lighter) Also — do you know the location of the fan
switch relay for the a/c and heater. My switch doesnt work to blow the air
in the car. Thanks Chaz

HumbleMechanic says:

Sorry for the late reply. This is an issue I have seen before. Off the top
of my head I forget what the issue is. You can just unplug the fans to keep
them from running. It may have been a coolant temp sensor issue.

HumbleMechanic says:

IT sounds like the door is not unlocking. It could be a failing door latch.

HumbleMechanic says:

You need to have an OBD tool to clear the light

Gary Ashton says:

I can’t open my passenger side door on my 2006 passat only from the inside.
Any help would be great thanks

sgladden5 says:

Hello Steve. Thank you for your video. I was wondering if you would know
where the fuse for the fan is in a 04 VW Touraeg. My coolant light cane on
but coolant is good and the fan comes on and it is running my battery down.
I thought maybe the sensor for fan is bad. Can you help or any suggestions.

Steve Varadi says:

My 05 VW Jetta will be not used for he next 5 weeks! I want to prevent
battery total depleting, I pulled out #42 (25A) Radio System fuse, and #37
Radio terminal (10A) also. Because it happend out of my garage I want to go
in the garage with my car, but my VW does not start! 🙁 I put back BOTH
fuses, car start, but CHECK ENGINE light remain ON! Is this normal? After
every fuse change check engine should be reset? BTW how do I reset check
engine, because nothing wrong with the car! Thank you.

wolfblood1971 says:

Hi, my dad owns a golf gti 2000. He often has a problem with a blown rear
light bulb but he has changed it many times in the past. However, recently
when he changed it the whole car has lost power, what do you suggest could
be the problem please?

HumbleMechanic says:

IF you are having an issue with all the lights in the right headlight, it
may be an issue with the connector at the light. If it’s just the low beam,
it could be a fuse, or a wiring issue to the bulb.

HumbleMechanic says:

Generally there is no need.

HumbleMechanic says:

This is a really good couple of questions. The open slots are usually for
extra equipment. That fuse panel you see in the video is the same for Golf,
Beetle, Jetta, Passat, and is used all over the world. The numbers being
upside down is probably due to a machine loading them. It doesn’t matter
for function.

Romario Flores says:

My right head light doesnt work, I took it to my mechanic and he couldnt
find the problem, we change the lightbulb but still wont turn on, any
suggestion? It can be a fusible?

plum413 says:

hi im richard i have a 07 passat with a airbag light on help

Miguel Lopez says:

do you know what key power fuse is?

HumbleMechanic says:

@richard you will need to have the fault checked. If you have
VCDS(aftermarket vw diagnostic software) it is easy. Otherwise you need to
take it somewhere that can check it. Feel free to get the fault and email
me with the info. Charles(at)humblemechanic(dot)com

HumbleMechanic says:

Which fuse do you need. Is the fuse missing?

socal5krunner says:

hey thank for the video, i have one question tho. I idk why but the red
screen in between my gauges turns on but the black letters and numbers are
very faint and the only way i can read it is if i look at it at an angle.
have you heard of the before.

HumbleMechanic says:

Do you have a Jetta or a Passat? It will make a difference in how we look
at things. When you use the key, are you talking about in the key slot in
the trunk? Do you hear any noise coming from the trunk?

HumbleMechanic says:

Sorry for the late reply, I hope that you got your roof fixed. I don’t know
what fuse you need to check. I HIGHLY recommend picking up a cheap test
light. You can get them for under $10. Then you can check all the fuses.

Patrick Barar says:

so i hope you can help me my wifes 2008 vw passat2.0t windshield water
cigarette lighter and blower fan stoped working.any ideas what should i
check!?i am a disabled war veteran and can’t afford to take the car to the
dealer.no more warranty.

HumbleMechanic says:

Yes they are fused. They are on the same fuse if I recall. Generally if
both of those switches are not working you have other issues. Be sure to
check all your fuses.

Dedo Kwamina says:

Why are some of the fuses upside down (numbers)? Also why are there open
spots where fuses should be?

HumbleMechanic says:

You have to reach in behind the trim in the trunk and pull the lid open.
You can also “pry” the door open with a small screw driver. Just be really
careful.

Lisa Hansen says:

Thanks so much; I will try a new one tomorrow!

HumbleMechanic says:

Not sure what you are referring too. Often we call things different things
from parts catalogs, and aftermarket. What exactly is this part. I don’t
want to give you bad info.

dvldog414 says:

How to find out the correct amps for the fuses? My 05 Passat GLS doesnt
have the fuse listing.

doctorabhishek3975 says:

I was trying to check fuses on VW jetta 2002 as my radio is not working. I
checked fuse #42 is seems okay but I also checked Fuse 32, 34 and now my
car wont start. What can be the issue? Car was starting before i checked
it. Lights and everything else works.

Rudy Gomez says:

Hi Charles, I was hoping you could help me out. I have an 01, 2.0 Jetta,
and the windows and sunroof won’t go up or down. I am guessing that it is a
fuse. Do you know what fuse, it is or if its even a fuse problem? Thank you
for your time. P.S. GREAT video!

AppPro says:

Hi,thank you for your video tutorial, I have a question about my 2003 GLS
WAGON 1.8 4 cylinders, last week I tried to open truck and I found 2
strange facts, first was AC stop working end also the trunk is not working
to, I tried by using the remote without solution after that I also tried by
using the original key , the light starting flashing but the trunk is not
responding, I tried to take the both cable on the battery waiting 5 minute
end checked again the trunk still not responding, help me

mbu solomon says:

and also when replacing the fuse do i have to disconnect the battery

Hosea Lesunyane says:

hi i have got my right head lamp and deam light off and i was told its
fuse, i bought the fuse but dont know which one to change, any ideas for a
2008 207 peugeot?

wanda pankey says:

is there a way to open the fuel door besides the switch mine is stuck shut
and i need gas now VW passat 2003

HumbleMechanic says:

That is a good possibility. Generally it is the fuse in the back of the
radio. Run down and check the fuses on the side(they are in the same place
as my Passat). If they are all good, you may need to pull the radio and
check the fuse in the back of the radio. If it is good, remove and
reinstall the fuse. Then plug radio back in. That almost always fixes it.

Izzi Brahim says:

how to change the Servotronic relay of touareg

HumbleMechanic says:

@socal, I have heard and seen that. In fact my Passat does it to. The issue
gets worse when it’s hot. I think it comes from a poor connection inside
the instrument cluster. I have never fixed one. I have read about people
fixing it, but never seen it.

HumbleMechanic says:

Start by checking fuse 41. I have ran into that exact thing. Some Passats
have those things on the same fuse. The fuse block is in the same place as
the Passat in the video(which is my Passat). Just pop the side cover off.

AppPro says:

Thanks so much for having responded to me quickly, I’m sorry if I did not
specify the model, is a 2003 Passat Wagon GLS 1.8, to answer your question
if I hear a noise when I insert the key into the lock of the trunk, no sir
not make any noise when I insert the key in the lock only flash the lights,
but not because it stopped working since he does not work anymore either
air conditioned, has a trick that connection with the trunk,I checked all
the fuse none of them are burnt or damaged, thank you

HumbleMechanic says:

Not sure exactly what you mean by key power.

HumbleMechanic says:

If you tell me what slot it is, I can look it up for you. Or you can email
me your VIN and I can look it up that way. Just send it to
Charles(at)Humblemechanic(dot)com

wanda pankey says:

VW passat 2003 and do the trunk work with a fuse also

wanda pankey says:

do the fuel door work with a fuse?

HumbleMechanic says:

@Lisa, yes it can. I have seen fuses look good but still be blown. They are
built to be obvious when they blow. But it’s not always the case. If you
don’t have any test equipment you can swap a good fuse in its place.

Cedar Meyer-Rainford says:

Any idea where I would find a chart indicating the proper fuse amperage for
each slot? I bought an 05 Passat that is missing the fuse for the brake pad
wear sensor. Thanks in advance.

HumbleMechanic says:

If you pulled the fuse out to check it, you may have put it back in the
wrong slot. I see it happen from time to time.

fofe11 says:

Hey i have a 03 jetta gli, my radio doesnt work, please help I’m guessing
it’s.a fuse

HumbleMechanic says:

@Rudy, It very well could be a fuse issue. I don’t recall which fuse you
need to check. I always recommend checking all the fuses. Check and make
sure they are not blown, AND they are all there.
