Alexander Avalos says:

yeah you can, in a newer video i made i put stepper motor from a mexican automatic jetta in kmh to my american mph STD gti…they had the same part number 91 225 002. suposedly it also works even if it has a different part number but i have not tried that

galapogos01 says:

Do the motors need to come from the same model cluster? I have to repair an Australian VR6 cluster that is in KM/H. Can I use steppers from any old cluster I can find on eBay?

Alexander Avalos says:

with both the clusters I have (currently none are working properly, tach and speedometer) they both have temp and gas working so i could only guess its dirty or the 3 pins connected to the circuit board are not tight, there is no soldering with those, it goes in by pressure

Luis Garcia says:

what if the temp and fuel gauge arent working?

TheOnlyonejeep says:

where is the link for the dis assembly?
thanx good video i have ripped my jetta apart several times.just did heater core and ripped and replaced dash.lots of hidden electronics on the glx.

Lala Mabaso says:

actually, I change the motors again and my speedo is now fixed. So my first replacement were also bad. It’s amazing how simple this fix is. thanks man.

Lala Mabaso says:

thanks for the tip. I tried it, but didn’t work for me.

Matthew Scanlon says:

I’m about to try this. Do you have or can you post some video of you actually swapping out the motor. Of where its located and the soldering that needs to be done?
Thanks

Alexander Avalos says:

im not that much of a mechanic. I woudl star by makign sure the MAF sensor is clean and also youve done a general maintenance to the car…also all fuses and relays are good and thight

Alexander Avalos says:

same as i did..you need to change the little motors that move the needle…most of the time its just the rev one thats failing …. you need to have some soldering skills to fix this

Voughtrazer says:

My ’95 Jetta has the exact same problem, the Temp gauge and the gas gauge works every time but the speedo and the rev counter only work the first time I start the car in the morning. I now know how to solve this problem, thanks!

Rick Zepeda says:

Hi dude, I was wondering if you could help me. I have 96 Golf Gl, and the oil light starts blinking then the tachometer begins to jump and finally it drops to zero, the car keeps running for let’s say 20 minutes after that, it just dies and then it wont start for at least 10- 15 min. Thank for any help.

Alexander Avalos says:

does ANYTHING work?

Alexander Avalos says:

id try googling what bulb is the CEL…you say the light isnt on anymore, have you scanned the obd to see if your even getting any errors

Alexander Avalos says:

mine did the exact same thing, change the little motors

PunkinTooF says:

My speedometer does nothing, what should I replace? It just stoped working.

Cynthia Ramirez says:

Hey, would you happen to know if how to fix the check engine light? I went to the smog check & the guy said the bulb for it is missing & some other guy said its the cluster, i don’t know which one to fix. I already took the cluster out but there’s alot of lights & i don’t know which one it is. The check engine light isn’t even blinking anymore, it’s just off. I’d appreciate if you replied to my comment asap, thanks.

Alan Huro says:

I have a golf 1998 2.0L. The speedometer and tachometer sometime work and sometime not. The gas gauge and temperature and other indicators work fine. When the speedometer is not working the needle is vibrate like crazy. But when it working it seems very accurate measuring velocity. If I start a car and it works it will not quit until I turn off. Never quit in the middle. But if it fail it will fail the all the way until I stop and restart a car. I wonder if it is because of a motor or else?

Alexander Avalos says:

before actually changing anything try cleaning the connections to the cluster, make sure all fuses are ok, also that the sensor actually hooked up to your trans is clean as well..if its still doing the same thing try re soldering the little motor for the RPMs

Daniel Merrill says:

hi im from the uk and have a mk3 golf tdi. The other day my rev counter has stopped working :/ any ideas on what it could be?? many thanks

Alexander Avalos says:

well it all depends on how equped your car such as airbags, seat belt sensor, etc….id recommend to fill them all if you are worried about have them all working

Alexander Avalos says:

you do have to press the clip hard, also pull the switch…look for some tutorial to remove it in forums…sorry for the long time for response :$

Alexander Avalos says:

no the errors are coming from your ECU, …you can take out the light and no more check engine 😛

Alexander Avalos says:

so did it work?

jordan schroeder says:

do you no how to install the reverse glow gauges?

jccp18 says:

You can get the whole Dashboard for 40 bucks at a JunkYard.Thats what I did for a 1996 Jetta GL.

619miketseng says:

thanks for the video

Lwoodbum says:

One more questions, do you know if there is any kind error codes or problems if you simply replace the whole cluster

Lwoodbum says:

When you pulled out the piece w/ the headlight switch did you only have to press the small clip on the side? I tried to remove that piece at the junk yard and ended up just breaking it off. Lol, I dont want to do that when I try to remove it on my actual car

DothefreakinDEW says:

Thanks Man Awesome Video my 1999 Mk3 is doing the same thing glad I dont have to replace the entire tach 😀
