My opinion is evs will power down in the next few years lol
Take to me about hydrogen powered vehicles as opposed to electric only vehicle. Bring on the gasoline fuel cell vehicle if you really want to do it right.
Gasoline carries much more energy by weight than an electric battery.
These are huge investments to put into something that barely has a proof of concept and at this stage zero traction on a global scale. Toyota doesn't need to follow anyone.
I think Toyoto is correct for going a little slower on the EV vehicles craze. One aspect that isn't discussed much is that EVs require much larger amounts of various metals to be produced and it will take time to create the capacity for mining and refining of these minerals. There will be considerable pressure on supplies and prices will rise so vehicles will continue to rise relative to other alternatives. People are buying EV in greater numbers, but they haven't experienced the cold/hot weather problems and the constant fueling issues and how about the millions of people who have to park on the street. The EVs are popular among younger people because it is cool, there is peer pressure and these people have been brainwashed by the climate alarmists that they are about to fry. I think governments will have to allow hybrid vehicles to be bought, so Toyoto may really benefit.
The last time I visited Japan was 2019 and I travelled throw several cities like Tokyo, Nagyoa, Yokohama… I noticed a lot of the people there drive hybrid cars and most drive very carefully in the city so the polution seems much less if you compare it to Vienna here in Austria. Probably it's also important how often you drive and how fast.
in general EV's are very important, even for Toyota.
I think they already know it but it takes so much time until they make any decissions… I would not say they are "too late" but they often wait so long with new technologies that it's difficult to understand why for their customers.
Anyway if they would bring one Aygo or Yaris EV that's truly affordable, I woul buy it for city trafic and short trips.
I would really like to get an alternative to the chinese brands.
You have to respect this CEO fit saying what he believes, whether he went willingly or was pushed, he stood by his beliefs, he will be snapped up for sure, finally a CEO that has balls and not scared to go against other companies misguided beliefs
Another factor in why Ford, GM and VW are pushing EV's is because they've built some of the worst gasoline internal combustion engines (ICE's) in recent years.
Toyota and Honda still build the best gasoline engines on the market.

BEV growth will NOT continue – until LIthium is replaced. 100,000 tons of Li are produced annually using 500,000 gallons of water per ton; enough to fill 1/3rd of Lake Erie. This limited Li production means a max of 5 million Y sized battery packs annually. 100 million light vehicles are sold world wide annually. Hybrids like the Toyota Prius can commute all electric; most miles are commute miles but it takes 1/6th the Lithium so you can make 6 for Every BEV. 6 electric commuters vs 1. IF your goal is lower CO2 Toyota is correct – there is zero question hybrids currently are superior as a fleet. If and when better batteries come – that could change everything.

At this point, if the electric car does NOT revolutionize its battery (from materials to durability, etc) EV could just be a fad taken over by another yet to be defined vehicle technology, like magnetic antigravity for example.
lol nope.. ToyoTAXI can no longer use their reliability as an excuse to keep redesigning their decade behind technology in their cars . About time, they can’t exploit their factory quotas for their fleet Taxi cars.
At the end of the day, they just making excuses for their lag in innovating.
