Are they all pre wired? I dont have that long interior tray, just the smaller one.

Auto DIY says:

Thanks for the feedback, they are incredible stickers for sure.

Tom Williams says:

nice install. those stick on wire holders are amazing. Don’t know how they hold in any weather.

Auto DIY says:

I went to TRDSparks for the parts; it does appear they have raised their prices since I did this, so it might be worth shopping around. Thank you for the very nice comment, I sincerely appreciate it. Enjoy your that truck.

Daniel Hust says:

Awesome job! You were born to do how to vids can you tell me where you got everything I have a 2013 Tundra and would like this exact system installed I have the tow package. Thanks again!

funny dude…. good video

Thanks for the feedback. P/N 250-8087, REARSIGHT® Camera Overhead Monitor Prewired Kit. This one was from TRDSparks for 235, but it appears they have raised it to 300…

Lee Clarkson says:

Great Video. I too was looking at the mirror option because I wasnt sure about the look of this one. But it looks great!!! Where did you get the unit, what is the model and how much was it? Thanks again for uploading this video

Auto DIY says:

Thanks, sorry it won’t help you, but glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment.

fasfan says:

Great video. Won’t help me since my Toyota is an ’06 and my eventual camera will be aftermarket… but still enjoyed it none the less.

Auto DIY says:

Thank you for taking the time to leave the great feedback. The in mirror option is really nice, but very expensive, for the money this option is tough to beat.

Far Pavilions says:

awesome video, thank you. I weas skeptical about the fit and finish of a stand-alone monitor installed in the overhead-cargo thang (i had my mind set on an in-mirror screen), but it looks great.

Auto DIY says:

Thanks for the feedback, I am glad you liked it. If you have the connectors open that you can see in this video you are good to go with this same kit. Good luck with your install.

pugfd441 says:

Looking at the website they state that if you have auto dimming mirrors that this will not work due to using the same wiring, although after looking I have both connectors open. I have a 07 Tundra. Any thoughts? And by the way great video!!!

Auto DIY says:

Yes, it gives you a great view of the hitch and makes hooking up your trailer an easy one person job. It has such a wide fisheye lens that even with the hitch out you can see both corners of the rear bumper, allowing you to back up to walls etc. perfectly. I feel like a sales person here, trust me there is nothing in this for me to sell you on the camera, I just think it’s really nice addition that you’ll use all the time.

darrenstapleton1 says:

I’m wondering before I purchase a camera if this one gives a good view of the hitch? One of the main reasons I want one is to assist with trailer hook ups. Thanks

Auto DIY says:

That is odd that you didn’t have the camera connection on the passenger side. Sounds like you have a factory tow package, so it should be there. No you should not change the towing harness there is power and a wire that will signal reverse in the bundle but nothing to feed your monitor. I suggest getting back under the truck and double checking for the camera harness. Based on the plug you found for the monitor in the cab, the camera harness really should be there.

roberto velez says:

hey nice video. my tundra 2008 only has one connector on the driver side where the towing harness is connected. i was not able to find a connector on the passenger side like you showed on the video, can i disconnect the towing harness and connect the camera there. i removed the housing where you place your glasses and it does have the the connector to connect the monitor. I thank you for your help

Auto DIY says:

It actually works fine in the dark. The camera automatically adjusts its aperture and the reverse lights do a great job of lighting its view. The only thing it’s lacking are the lines that show you where your truck is headed, but those would be a nice to have not really required.

MrBoatJimmy says:

Hey – great instructions! Question about this camera kit; how well, if at all, does it work at night in the dark?

Auto DIY says:

Hi Bob, I checked the trdsparks site and it looks like the difference in part number is related to the year of the trucks, this video features a 2008 model year, your truck is newer and uses some updated harnesses. The extra wires are auxiliary connections to the monitor, they include them with the screen for folks that aren’t prewired, I assume this just gives the screen more versatility in their product line. That in mirror screen looks clean, that’s probably your best option.

Bob Porter says:

Hi,
Excellent video! I have a 2012 Tundra DC. After watching your video, I contacted TDRSparks on a backup kit. They say my truck is pre-wired for the camera. They sent my three options;
p/n 00016-34086 Pre-wired $580 (looks factory to me)
p/n 250-8073 Non-pre-wired $124.95 (looks like yours)
p/n 250-8804-CCD Non-pre-wired $464.95
But not your number 250-8087 any idea of what might be different? What were the extra wires up by the monitor that you didn’t uses?
Thanks
Bob

Well done, and thank you for the kind feedback. Helping people like you is my goal with videos like this one, enjoy your new camera.

Romeo Martinez says:

I have an 08 tundra crewmax and your video was excellent helped out a lot more than the instructions that came in the box.

ogierosario says:

I have a CM tundra and I have the a home link compass feature. People says that i should be ready for the back up camera mod. Does that mean all I got to do is to drill the hole on the tailgate for the cam and attach the harness by the spare tire and that’s it, I should be done? Since ii have home link mirror does that mean its already prewired all the way back to the tailgate.?

Auto DIY says:

I ordered mine from TRDSparks, total was 235 including the shipping. You might be able to find a better deal if you shop around. TRDSparks was good to work with though.

Your video for the backup camera and monitor installation, I have a question for you, I have a 2008 Tundra and would like to buy the camera that you show in your video, where can I purchase it, could you help me out. oliverrk@q.com. thank you

lchiasso2011 says:

You’re very welcome! My son and I enjoyed and learned from your instructional video. All the best, LJC and NMC.

Auto DIY says:

I didn’t know that mirror used the same harness as the monitor. If you have a tow package on your tundra you should be prewired. To be sure you could remove your overhead console and see if the harness is available. You are looking for the plug shown at 8:54.

1614nevada says:

awesome install video… i’m bummed because i have the home link mirror and was told my harness is already being used. any thoughts?

Auto DIY says:

You are welcome, I’m glad it helped you. I hope you enjoy your new toy.

Simon Miller says:
