This is an easy way to save on a costly repair from the dealership. Toyota’s quote was $500. The entire Fix takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Make sure you dont lose metal clips that connect the two stems of main housing. When I popped main down for first time, the clips popped off but got lodged inside the trucks metal framing up there. May need a magnetized rod to retieve them. Then you must reattatch clips to stems snd then push up in there before screwing main unit back in place.
I have done this repair 4 times (seems like every 2 years, I park outside in the South Fla. SUN) on my 2005 Taco. You would think Toyota might recognize the obvious design error and allow some low cost solution/resolution ?
Thanks for the video, I was looking for the fuse, but could not find the right one. I think this is the problem, it just stopped working.
Thank you…just fixed mine in 15 minutes and saved over $100
My 15 year old daughter saw mine blinking and pecked on it. Naturally it quit working, so I jokingly blamed her. I already knew it had been blinking, but I have been missing it after it went out. Gonna try it tomorrow, thanks for help.
Thanks :)))))))))):)):):):):):(:(:):):):):)
Omg my grandma is so happy I found this that she missed a turn on the way home
The fact that you used Terminator music as your theme is awesome. I haven’t had this problem… Yet. But it’s great to know someone has a cheap & easy fix.
Fixed in 20 minutes, thanks!
Thanks for posting this! I will try it out on my ’08 Tacoma. Like the background music also. lol
Do this guys! It works! You CAN pay for an upgraded part/fix (Toyo figured it out that these were breaking), mine was completely broken off. Luckily it is sealed inside that black cover he removes. SO BE CAREFUL to not lose it!
thank you very much!!! I follow your directions and now it works. it was like that for about 2 years!!!
Thanks!!!!!! I followed every step!!! It worked!!!!!!
Thanks so much!!! I saved $100+ by doing it myself!!! Great Video.
Thanks dont fall for any other fix. This the way to go. Thanks for the post.great way to fix.
Great! Thanks! Too Easy! And I like your trippy background music!
Thanks for sharing! Works great!
Thanks!
My soldering skills were a little rusty so it took me 20 minutes instead of 10 but it’s fixed! Thanks a lot for the video!!! It couldn’t be any easier.
Thanks for sharing. Got mine fixed in 10 mins. Was worried I was going to have to take it in.
Yes no need to replace the 510 in most cases
Fixed in just a few minutes. The hardest part was finding the soldering iron. Works great!
Thanks again for this video.
after pulling out the board (fantastic instructions) both of the 510 chips visually looked ‘fine’. I took a small knife and with little-to-no pressure, the side of the “top” 510’s popped right off – clearly a bad connection. We soldered that one and also added some to the other 510 for good measure. worked like a charm!
So just solder the 510 on both sides? Prolly wanna touch up the second one too right?
Thanks worked like a charm
Just used double sticky tape for the garage door opener.
Also note: the trucks have an issue with a coil that controls the airbag. My red airbag came on and Toyota fixed it free.
MAN!!! $500 AT TOYOTA? WOW. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS GREAT INFORMATIONAL VIDEO.
You guys are You Tube Heroes. Thanks for posting.
The resistor can be purchased online at one of the following.
Allied Electronic, DigiKey, Mouser.
Here is what you need to know.
It is a thick film 51 ohm 2512 package and I believe it is 5%.
Please note if the pads on the resistors are damaged you will have to replace.
I purchased 4 on mouser.com for $6.50 with shipping.
Mouser Part # 71-CRCW2512J-51-E3
Thanks for the video

How is your garage door opener attached. My 2008 just has a solid piece of plastic there. Did you just stick it with adhesive?
Thanks for posting this. It took about 20 minutes and it’s good as new. If I would have taken it to the dealer it would have been $500 plus I would have had to leave my truck there all day.
Simply resoldered the old resister back. No need to buy a new one.
Thanks! Worked out well.
Where did you buy the 510 Resistor?? By the way, great video!
2005 fixed in about an hour! My first time soldering too. Thank you so much for posting this video. Such a blessing. You rock!
Yes, funny enough, my friends 98 Ford had the same problem. Killed two birds with one video !!! must be from the same malaysian factory !!
was the resistor popped up on yours?
2008 Fixed under half an hour. This was great. Thanks for sharing.
