That AMP crimper/cutter is not available. It’s a vintage tool and no longer made by TE, the company that bought AMP (Airline Marine Products). But I did put a Klien Tools version who produces excellent tools and should work very well.

The mirror comes out easily by prying the end of the mirror assembly closest to the end of the visor as opposed to the middle. That makes it easier to Skin the visor and then sew the covering back together when finished. Great video and Thanks for the idea.

Robert Rod says:

we had a mercedes from 1983. The visor never broke. 40 years and nothing. that is the problem with these garbage cars being made now. they are made to break. oh and they charge 200 bucks for this garbage.

CrAsh CanuCk says:

Fantastic! An elegant solution to a frustrating, perplexing problem.
I used your bolt solution on my 2014 Tacoma.
I live in Phoenix, so my only variant was to avoid using tape, as it would only melt and fall apart in the desert heat. Instead, I drilled three holes along the edge of the plastic clamshell and used zip ties to hold it together. I positioned the zip tie connection on the closed side of the visor so you don’t see the little bumps in the fabric most of the time.
I then sewed the fabric back in place. It looks like Dr Frankenstein did the repair, but it’s not bad.
Thank you for posting a very helpful video

Bruce Kaplan says:

great video, right to the point, BUT you didn't say what size drill , bolt and nut you used, I used a .125 (1/8) drill, bolt and nut with 2 washers, one out side and one inside

plastic man says:

I never thought putting the visor into place was so difficult, why springs?

Mary Kelley says:

Help!!! I can't get the 'clam shell' to open up. I've already bent the plastic out of shape closest to the arm. The bottom of the clam shell pops open easily, but the area where I need to see where the broken parts are is held on pretty tightly. Did anyone else have that issue?

Brian Hoffman says:

Worked on a '07 Taco perfectly! Have to find a way to make the seems look a little cleaner when its buttoned all up! Awesome video! Thank you!!

Bobbie Kinns says:

Wonderful video for a 61 year old female who is having the same problem. Thank you thank you!

Ian Hesketh says:

What kind of wristwatch are you wearing, good job by the way.

mdmarshall2 says:

Good job. Thank you for sharing.

Here's how I repaired my Prius sun visor with the droop/lazy/falling problem. Thanks for your video, by the way, it was helpful to see what you tried. Your fix is probably the most robust of what's on youtube. Here's my solution, which points out the technique for getting the zip/cable ties in and shows that they hold – at least on mine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6wOyFMfff0

Wow, nice video and excellent solution!!! Love your little "like, comment, subscribe" posty note throughout, Classy!

Patrick Perez says:

Thanks, worked for me on a 2013 Mazda CX-9, very similar. I cut the seam of the fabric with an X-acto and used super glue to close the seam when finished. Like another person I too removed the trim for the mirror to make it a lot easier to reseat the fabric. All works except that the mirror light does not work, I think I forced the contacts out of place and I should have tested it before gluing the fabric but it's all out back together. Happy to have a working visor but this did take me about 1.5hrs so in reality it would have been cheaper in relative terms to buy the OEM part 🙂 but always fun to fix things.

NU MOO says:

There was a recall for the sun vizor …hope you were eligible?

Martin Philips says:

Have you had to fix the sunglasses holder in the roof console? I don't know if it's the same in an 06 as mine (07).

Claudia Todaro says:

Will it work on 2002 toyota hightlander

Miguel Gonzalez says:

Thumbs up! I need to fix mine visor, Toyota Highlander. Thank you for the video
