Thank you! My wife will also be so happy after I fix this for her. We’ve been dealing with the problem over the past few years and it hasn’t been bad until recently. I knew it was something in the Control, but figured I would have to buy a new one. Thanks again, I can’t wait till I can tackle this project!

Thanks for you comments and sharing your concern. Please watch the first 4 minutes of video 1, I give the viewer words of caution and a number of options. Thus far maybe 1 or 2 tried without success. The other saved lots and lots of cash.

I can appreciate you trying to help people out with your video but, it may be doing more harm than good. We get units sent in time and again where someone has watched the DIY videos and with little or no experience attempt repairs thus damaging circuit boards and ribbon connectors making them un repairable and costing them more money in the end. We have two such units on the bench right now where customers have attempted these repairs and we are just one of many repair facilities doing these.

Thanks you for this video.

I have used your video and was successful. I initially did not reconnect the ribbon to the black carriage and push it back down. When I reconnected everything the hazard lights, and other functionality was not working. I had to take it back apart and discovered this error. Once I address this, everything works perfectly.

It worked! Got it fixed, thanks to you! Thanks Rick for posting these 3 videos. It was extremely helpful! Great step by step guide. You were right on point with the time frame estimated to fix this. Total cost for soldering gun and some wire: $9.73. I soldered the ends that broke off. It was tricky, but I did it. You saved me tons of money. Thank you so much Rick. You’re a pro!

OH NO!! Your are the first fatality… Try taken to an Electronics Store, a real one not Radio Shack, they may be able to help.

James Stanich says:

Well, I tried… disconnecting the two components, where the small ribbon connects them, I accidentally pulled off the black clamp that held the ribbon that was connected on the board. Wondering, can the black clamp be reattached or have I totally messed this beyond DIY?

RickM1953 says:

LOL… BSEE… OK I am truly jealous… If I could only turn back the clock. Are you into Amateur Radio at all? I had to study my ass off to get my Extra Class License.

David Suhr says:

Thanks. You helped this BSEE with the hard part, How to get the pod out of the dash. Awsome.

Well done group of instructions! Followed and fixed my Highlander saving some serious bucks . Note the credit card works to move the trim, just be gentle and patient working it side to side.
