That ID box seems like a really big single point of failure…
I’m curious on your thoughts on the remote start function that shuts the car off once you enter the vehicle.
A short time ago my battery died on my 2018 Tacoma, and I had to steer and push it out of an airport parking lot to get a jump from someone. Am I to assume I would be able to steer my 2026 out of that spot because the steer would not unlock?
Has Toyota improved their in vehicle network security to prevent CAN injection? If not then the immobilizer can be bypassed if you gain access to other computers on the vehicle
I have a 2012 Dodge. I hate the car because it's a lemon, but I LOVE the keyless entry and start. I'll be buying a Toyota at the end of the year and plan on getting a keyless version.
All this fancy tech is great… right up until the bad guys use a receiving device to quietly, secretly, and remotely capture the electronic handshake code between your Key Fob and vehicle.
You sir are awesome thank you for this video!
Most transmission levers I've used are designed so if you don't press the switch on the lever, and just slap the lever forward, it will just drop into the neutral detent from drive and stop there. Probably designed just that way for the case of runaway acceleration.
Much of the rest of this was new to me, never owned a push button start vehicle as I'm not a fan of my key fob transmitting my car's codes without me pressing the button. I was aware of pressing the key fob to the start button in the event the key fob battery is dead. Now some vehicles even have an app you can unlock your car from your smart phone.
Thank you for the useful information!
with all these security features how are smart key toyotas being stolen at a crazy rate in Canada?
That was cool. Thank you for some good advice.
I like The Car care nut. I watch it all the time, but this is just a gimmick to promote Tundra, which is ok too.
so…how long these ECU last may i ask?
I miss those analog dumb car keys.
I have a 2020 Tundra and I have a 20/20 GX 460 there is no courtesy switch where you're pointing at near your elbow. How in the heck do I stop that incessant beeping when I open the door without having to slam the door again ?
i love my smart key features.
Love my smart key
Another explanation of parasitic effects on your battery, AND NOW you can’t buy a battery that lasts for 6 years. I’m ready to go back and look for an old car with none of this crap.
Just the last couple of safety tips alone made this video very much worth watching.
Great advice! I leave my wife in the car all the time; I'll teach her the 'hold' trick!
CARS DON’T NEED A KEYFOB TO BE DRIVEN!!!! FOB IS ONLY FOR STARTING THE CAR. A friend drove 28 miles, turned off the car and was stranded without her fob. FORD- started the car, hid the key inside a building, turned off the car and it said I had 30 seconds to restart WITHOUT THE FOB. Drove down the street without the key fob, turned off the car, and it started again. No key fob. Lexus- I don’t use the keyless app setting. If my phone is stolen, they can’t take my car, too.
