Anything after 1995 is not much better than domestic trucks IMO. The Real Toyota Trucks had a simple 22-RE engine and lasted forever if taken care if. In some cases they lasted forever even if they were abused. I am serious I worked at a Cotton compress that had Toyota Trucks in the 70's and early 80's. Japan was buying a lot of cotton those years and the farmers thanked them by buying Toyota trucks. Well fast forward to 1984 and they were not buying as much cotton so they baught Chevy S-10 Trucks. I personally knew a guy that baught one of the Toyotas that had 220k miles and was beat up from fork lifts bumping into it. It smoked really bad too, but he got it for like $200 and he drove that truck for 15 more years and it kept going and broke down less than the new S-10 trucks! I saw this personally so those old trucks were really amazing.

Michael Heikkila says:

I want to reach through the screen and clean the front wheels

Steven Giblin says:

I had a 2008 TRD Off-road. In over 160000 miles the only thing I had do was a wheel bearing and an idler pulley. Rust belt truck that did not qualify for the frame replacement. Have a 2017 now and am keeping an eye on the issues that you mentioned in your 3rd gen video.

Doug Mead says:

You need to be a little more specific in regard to changing the transmission fluid! Your comment about changing every 60K is accurate depending on the year and IF, IF, IF you tow with the truck. A lot of people think they need to change their transmission fluid, not knowing this, or reading their owner manual. I suggest you do the same!

RR says:

Daughter probably hates her dad for ugly old truck. I would probably get something more pretty car instead. Rav4. CX5 or Subaru. X3.
This truck is not for use in NY college.

Chris C says:

Great information! I love my 2006 Tacoma prerunner. It’s been extremely reliable.

Philip G says:

What a beautiful truck! Wow! Love that thing. Manual transmission, super clean!

TheNutty0101 says:

Should do a video on undercoating and rust prevention, Please!

Brian Doherty says:

This man had deep knowledge of these Toyotas and he is so generous with his advice. I am amazed he doesn't get many thousands of hits on each of his videos. Such a refreshing break from loopy mechanical advice "gurus" such as Scotty Kilmer.

Michael Leipski says:

Thanks Again AMD!! I love my 2015 DCLB 4×4

Annie Hovsepian says:

I learned to drive a manual and I love it! I admit it can be a headache in traffic but I think it's worth it

Wade Tyrell says:

I own a similar 2008 Tacoma TRD 6 speed manual trans. with a Warn winch, never got stranded out in the mountains. I keep the oil changed regularly as well(do it myself)…if I'm in a region where they salt roads, I take my truck to the local self car wash and spray down the undercarriage thoroughly on a regular basis, my frame is comparably rust-free. A couple of bucks at the car wash makes a big difference if you stay on top of it. Saves a lot of head aches down the road.
