This Car Had This Problem for 4 Years! Dealership Parts Cannon Fail!

This 2008 Toyota Avalon has a strange electrical problem that it was bought with that eluded the dealership and multiple shops because of how strange the issue it.

90% of the diagnosis for issues like this starts on the drawing board and not with the car. You have to have a proper understand of what you are working with before you start your testing on the car.

Don’t replace parts or do anything until you have a plan and approach of diagnosis in a car. Otherwise it will bring the parts cannon and frustration.

This is 'Eric O'-level (South Main Auto channel) diagnostics right here ! (And that's a huge compliment!) Eric O and AMD are YouTube mechanic G.O.A.T.s!!
AMD, I think you sell yourself short – I doubt there are thousands out there who could make such a diagnosis. You sir are one of a smaller number than that, which means someone of your caliber is all the more rare! We appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us viewers!!

I had an 05 Solara that was eligible to have the dash replaced, I never did have it done. First it really wasn’t that bad and second I was afraid something weird like this might happen!

wow amazing diagnosis!

Great video; turned this on as background while working and ended up on the edge of my seat the whole time. Separately, pretty infuriating that the dealer would replace the ECU and claim problem resolved and charge the customer, for a persistent problem! Flat rate strikes again.

Doesn’t the gateway module also read on the CAN bus with the scan tool? You should be able to see if the gateway module is alive via the scan tool as well, or at least I thought.

So someone changed the dash years ago and this stuff obviously didn’t work after that job. You’ figure at that point whoever did that would think that obviously something never got re hooked up. Was working before and now it’s not working. I don’t understand that thought process.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a video on the new LC 250 air conditioning system. complaints are piling up. weak air flow on anything but low and depending on outside ambient temps, it will only blow very cold on low or very hot on anything else pushing cabin temps well beyond manual set temperature. See my most recent video where I show this. I think they need an update or recall asap.

This is the stuff I love to see cuz amar breaks it down for me to understand even thou I’m a mechanic I get overwhelmed by the complexity of these systems more “gremlin”. Videos like this please ‘

I am not a Toyota owner and I am too old to be a mechanic anymore. I'm a retired family doctor. Your diagnosis technique is so good and should be the beginning of every repair. If you don't understand how it works how can you make an accurate diagnosis? You can shoot from the hip and be a parts cannon and you're lucky sometimes but finding a knowledgeable mechanic is the key. So far my 2018 Traverse has worked according to manufacturer specs and I hope it continues for as long as I'm able to drive. And mechanics and electronics is much more than many "trained" mechanics are able to comprehend even though they might be certified.

Thank you so much for this video. I watch all of your troubleshooting videos because they help me learn ways to fix a refrigerator, a washing machine, and even my lawn equipment. You've gotta know how to make the diagnosis before you buy the first part. Thank you again.

I used to have an 09 Avalon and when I put an aftermarket radio in it, the original radio had to relocated to the trunk to keep the AC. I'm guessing this is the reason why. However even though that car's still on the road, I sold it over the summer and now have a 2021 Avalon XLE, I've had for about a month now and it's my dream car. A bit rough around the edges, but it's slim pickings now with how awesome they are and not being made. But I plan to make the paint nice again and glad that adding a subwoofer is plug and play with an amp addition.
