Should you clean your Throttle Body and How to clean it on Toyotas

A Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician explains Should you clean your throttle body and How to do it safely without damaging the throttle body.

In this much requested video I show you how to clean your throttle body. If you watch my channel regularly you’ll know that I always tell my viewers that you need to know how to do things but more importantly you need to know why you are doing them.

We’ll start with a brief history on Toyota Throttle body designs. Then I’ll explain exactly why you need to clean the throttle body on your Toyota.

Then we’ll dig into how to clean it. You don’t need to remove the throttle body from the car to clean it, however if you prefer to do so you will need to replace the gasket so you won’t risk vacuum leaks.

This is a very simple procedure to do and very DIY friendly. Follow the precautions and you’re on your way to service your car and save a few bucks in the process.

Is it a motor or a servo.
A motor usually goes in one direction and I isn't positionable.
A servo is controlled in increments and can go forwards and backwards

WHY mechanics hardly tell you the truth about cleaning or replacing the pcv valve and the vent hose? Is it because is such a cheap fix that will save the life of the car, and save the owner lots of money? Such a shame.

Walter Hartman says:

So when I clean out my throttle body on my 2005 Sienna CE with 150K on it, to I disconnect the battery or no? And should I spray the Mass Air Flow Sensor or replace that also at the same time? So it will run rougher for a couple of days or so perhaps and then settle down? I hope this takes care of the slight lurching first thing in the morning when putting it into gear and the the hesitation in the acceleration from slow speeds in first gear.

Gallo Negro Inc. says:

AMD I love you videos BUT on this one I have an issue , why didn't you remove the throttle body , anytime I have cleaned A throttle body it always been off the car , I unscrew it and clean it on the workbench and replace the gasket and clean it ONLY with throttle body cleaner with a toothbrush and then blow it dry and then put it back on the car , when YOU clean these at the dealership that YOU work at don't YOU ever remove them to clean them , and as always AMD , I love these great videos thank you .

CRC sells a throttle bottle cleaner and maf cleaner in two small bottles (5oz) as a set for $8.47 at walmart (at time of this writing). I clean the maf first and leave it out to dry, then do the throttle body and by the time I'm done the maf is dry and ready to be reinstalled.

Kyle Whisenant says:

2010 Toyota Camry had a rough idol a cleaned and brushed out The throttle but didn't take it out it definitely helped a lot but still a little rough with idle I'll end up having to take it out and clean it completely one day and I changed the throttle clamp it was a pain to get off and couldn't get it back on put a easier one on
