The antenna your replacing is working so the cord is not broken . If the cord is broken above the gears and your just cutting the strip off to the same length as to where its broke then when you feed the new cord into the motor gear and it lowers the antenna the next time it goes up the end of the cord will be at the end of the gear and won't grab to pull its self beck down . If the cird is broke in the gear housing you have to take the gear box apart and get rid of the broken piece then feed it into the reel .
