Installing Rough Country Lift on Toyota Tacoma, Part 2 – the Rear!

Installing Rough Country Lift on Toyota Tacoma, Part 2 – the Rear!

Welcome back! Since the Cherokee CRD alternator job is back in the owner’s hands, I can finish off installing this @RoughCountryTV 3.5″ lift into my friend’s 2019 @ToyotaCanada Tacoma TRD Sport. In this video I’ll be installing new leaf springs and rear shocks, as well as topping off the front diff, which lost some oil when I installed the @yukongearandaxle output bushing. Then I’ll modify the skid plate bracket and re-install the front skid plate, then it’s off for an alignment at @kaltire!
Thanks for watching!

Flying high with the Kat. The most important thing with a lift is that it will still fit through the door when you are done.

I was given one big aluminum wheel and tire that came off a lifted Toyota, 12.5x33R15 I think; made in 2007 and not too dry rotted and around 50%? worn. Somewhat mild looking tread considering the size, clearly not worth the international shipping, but I will try to figure out what it's worth and put it on Marketplace, Asheville NC when I get around to it. I'm guessing it's a 15×12" rim.
I'm pretty sure it won't fit on my unlifted Dodge W150, '82, 225/6. That has 10.5x31R15 and might take 1 size bigger, do they make 32? maybe 10.5×33 but I'm guessing not 11.5×33. Anyway, for the moment, I'm the proud owner of one impressively huge tire, though my old and dry rotted Super Swampers have more impressive tread. No point now in keeping highway miles off the swamp tread because the dry rot will get to them soon regardless of wear.
What are the biggest tires you've ever seen on an unlifted square body Dodge? Though of course it's common for owners to run tires that scrub on turns, which I don't want, though I might be willing to roll the lips of the fenders.

I opened front left brake caliper on a friend's 2005 Camry, which has been warping rotors, and found a substantial quantity of black powder in the fluid, though the metal surfaces were all shiny, at least inside the seal. So I figure this stuff may have been interfering with complete brake release occasionally, thereby heating and warping the rotors. I should check the other side when I have time and remember to check whenever experiencing warped rotors or dragging brakes.
I figure this stuff was either deteriorated rubber or black rust from somewhere else in the system or some of each. 2005 Camry. I should get more brake assembly lube and check the other side when I can.

I realize that you do heavy work in your day job and must be tired but man… that's lots of gruntin' and groanln' for a young guy. 😉
I'm old so I'm tired just watching you.

Nice to work on Rust free stuff that’s a lot easier. Enjoyed the show. Good job.
This was a nice distraction from what I’ve been doing the last week.

Looks good brother. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible weekend. Much love and RESPECT You know what i figured out to use in all the hard to reach places. I have an old quart bottle of hand sanitizer with a pump top. I cleaned it out and the spout goes in the hole perfectly with the angle and just push the bottle to pump. Eazy Peazy
