How to replace Spark Plugs on 2010-2021 4Runner and 10-14 FJ Cruiser

A Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician shows you how to replace spark plugs on the 2010-2021 Toyota 4Runner and 2010-2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser.

In this video I cover the replacement procedure for the 5th gen 4runner and the FJ cruiser models with the updated 1GR-FE engine. The 2007-2009 FJ cruise had a different version of the 1GR-FE engine that was similar to previous the previous 4runner generation with the old 1GR-FE

This is a very simple and easy job and only requires very basic hand tools and should be carried out every 120,000 miles or 10 years whichever comes first.

What a mess. It was so easy on my 2006 Tacoma back in the day. I just purchased a ‘16 4RUNNER and am not looking forward to this swap.

I just bought a 2016 4runner SR5 last week. I have a 1997 4runner SR5 and have been doing all the mechanical work on it except for the timing belt. I was very happy to find your channel since the 2016 I just bought is a whole new world to me. Now I know I can change the sparks plugs when the time comes. Thanks for the great video and detailed explanation. I am keeping the 1997 with 206k miles as long as I can. These 4runner are amazing.

Sunny D'Light says:

Great Video!! THanks! What happens when you forget to re-connect the hose? 😀 I made this mistake and realized it after about 100 miles and watching ur video. Hopefully it didn't cause too much damage.

I finally replaced one of the ignition coils on my '97 4 Runner a couple of months ago. They can last a long time.

Phillip Polk says:

Who, as in manufacturer, places the weather strip in the door sill, these Toyota 4 runners have a weather strip for the rear gate that is destroyed whenever anything is slid in and out of the rear. Stupid, fall on your sword ,stupid. The weather strip should be on the damn door …… Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Steven Lefebvre says:

Thank you that was a great video.

Jeremy W says:

My 2012 has no air pump. Talk about easy. I watched because I wanted to see the difference on the newer ones.

VP1000mph says:

Excellent video. Luckily the 2010-2012 4Runner does not have the smog pump, making the job even easier.

Saladon89 says:

why didnt u change the spark plugs on the other side?

Ray Mathews says:

What is NIC??

James Wuertele says:

Question, I’m very impressed with the build quality of the 4Runner. Why does the air filter have that outer filter on it? Is this to filter the big ball bearing rocks? My 2019 Tacoma didn’t have this outer filter. Thank you!

Faheem Hoshmand says:

Hello sir, hope you are well. Thanks for making such great videos which is beneficial for everyone to watch and learn. Your knowledge and experience about cars is phenomenal. I have a question to ask regarding my wife's car. It is a Toyota corolla 2018 model. Since we purchased it second hand it is making this pinging noise from under the engine specially when it is going up hill it gets worse. I always use premium fuel 98. I have taken it to the dealer and they said they couldn't hear the noise when it can be easily heard. No other mechanic can diagnose this problem. I would like to request if you could please kindly tell me what could be the issue? Much appreciate it and thank you so much.

Thomas Mulligan says:

What about Anti seize on the plugs? And dielectric grease on the coils?

Silver Runner says:

Great video, and included torque spec! Would love to see a video on suspension upgrade on the 4Runner!
