my 2001 rav4 exerpierienced harsh shifting and gear jumping. did some research and found out it was in fact my ECM. at first I didn't know where it was located or how to replace it. this video was extreamly helpful. i replaced the ECM and now the truck rides smoother than when I had bought it. thank you very much.
Had ECM prob w my 2002 RAV4, classic tranny harsh shifting symptoms, etc. Warranty expired. Bought replacement ECM ($150 online) & had it installed correctly. Then… car wouldn’t turn over! : ( Called about 5 places (incl dealership)…1 place had a few ideas (long crank, eg), none worked. THEN: by happy accident, I used the physical key to lock, then unlock the car. Decided to try to start it one more time….and POOF, engine started!! Problem 100% solved. Lesson learned: New ECM will ‘lock out’ car ID/ignition, as a security measure, if it doesn’t ‘read’ original key in lock. [A good thing, in case it of hot-wiring or whatever else.] Anyhow, I gave up hope, until I did this. Give it a try!!!
Would this be the same for a 2005 rav4? because my glove box looks a little different from this shown in the video?
where is the Ecm located on a 98 Toyota Tacoma
