How to Replace Broken Lug Nut Studs – bolt repair Toyota Corolla fix

How to Replace Broken Lug Nut Studs – bolt repair Toyota Corolla fix

You will need to get both front wheels off the ground unless you have your broken bolt aligned perfectly with the groove. [not likely]
Replacement bolts are about $2. Most auto parts stores carry them. The ThreadLocker is not necessary, but it can be helpful. It will however make it more difficult to take the bolts off in the future.

The car I am working on is a 2003 Toyota Corolla.

Not sure why you would put thread lock on the caliper mounting bracket bolts. I doubt it's spec'd, and as tough as it was breaking them loose in the video, it will be doubly tough if there's ever a next time. Also, maybe research and post the torque values for those bolts? On 3rd gen Prius I know it's 101 ft/lb for fronts and 42 for rears.

Apart from that, thanks for posting: it's always been a mystery to me, how lugs are installed.

Thank you for this. Recently took my 09 Corolla in to have a tire patched after picking up a fastener. Today, I decided to swap my front brakes before heading out for holiday travel (a job that I've done 20+ times over the years across various vehicles) and noticed that one of my nuts had been cross threaded – leading to me sheer the bolt during removal. As if often the case, my ~30 min job has turned into a ~2hr job (now that I have to make another trip to the auto store), but your video helped me learn what I needed to do which will ultimately save me some additional wasted time. Now, off to the store with bold and nut in hand! Thanks!

I had to pay $60 for Pep Boys to replace this as they were the ones who broke it off in the first place.  If I would have seen this video first I would have told them to get somewhere and did it myself…..smh.  Thanks for the video.  I will be sure to bookmark it for future reference!  P.S. I also doubt if I will use any locktite.

Mohamed Radhi says:

Hi, how do you stop the hub from rotating when you tighten the stud in (after putting washers)?

Mol Trans says:

Trying to make it harder for the other person to change their brakes huh?
