I just bought an old 1993 Toyota Corolla(7th gen). Bought it so I can learn more about being a DIY mechanic. These Toyota maintenance videos have made me more confident about choosing which fluids to use!

Don vergas says:

I have a 2004 Corolla and it seems to have the red coolant in the reservoir, Can I change it to the pink? Or is that bad for it?

Richard Lafayette says:

thank you for the info

craZivn says:

Question: I just bought a Sienna with the 1MZ-FE engine and it's got what looks like yellow coolant in it. Should I continue to use that, or replace it with Toyota stuff?

Dr. Navid Soltani says:

Hey AMD, if I have a 2004 RAV4 that's done 140k miles with no history of transmission fluid change would you change it in my position? No provlems with the transmission, its done some heavy towing (horse) in recent years. My Toyota dealer "can't advice since its a lifetime fluid" and my local mechanic advises against it. I saw your video dicussing that the old oil may even be helping the transmission due to debree, perhaps pulling and changing half is a solution? Lost in what to do

L A says:

Toyotas are having an issue with Engine coolant bypass valves with only…30,000 miles. I bought my car brand new and changed the oil/maintenance checks like clockwork. I need help replacing it! Can you show a video on how to do this?

Saco Cheio says:

What you mean change the trans fluid? Flush or just drain and fill?

R Lee says:

Local dealer does not have the concentrate coolant. How can you get a full replacement if using the 50/50? If I flush with distilled water there will remain one gallon of water in the engine after removing the gallon in the radiator? If I use the 50/50 I can't get a 50% total solution ratio in the system.

Allen Bruns says:

What kind of transmission fluid for a 97 LS400?
Blk dipstick handle…? WS ?
Thank you !!!!!!!!

Felipe Melchor says:

For the hybrid rav4 2021 do we also use the atf ws for differential fluid change?

Martin Albert says:

Can Toyota pink and red be mixed in the same system?
How often should the coolant be changed in the hybrid inverter?

Cruz Ortiz says:

Great información

Teeman's Life says:

When should you change the transmission filter?

MyDeere3320 says:

AMD, have you heard of IDEMITSU ATF Type – TLS? From their chart, Type TLS is equivalent to Toyota's WS. Are they comparable or should I stick with Toyota fluid?

oceanbreeze says:

Aisin CVT-FE is the same as the Toyota CVT-FE, they make the damn transmission for Toyota. Toyota just slaps a lable on the transmission fluid can, and charges 4x to 5x the price of what they buy it for.

Sheng Duh says:

@thecarcarenut. For a 2019 RAV4 does it use the ATF-WS trans fluid or the CVT fluid?

fabfabber says:

I have an 08 Camry 4 cylinder. Drained the transmission pan at 30K miles and refilled with Toyota WS fluid. Drained the pan again at 50K, but refilled with Valvoline MaxLife full synthetic. Have put 5K miles since then. Tranny shifts fine, no problems. Will drain again at 60K miles and again use the Valvoline. Did some research on the Valvoline, plus read comments and watched videos from other people and mechanics who say they have not experienced any problems using the MaxLife tranny fluid. Plus, it's less expensive than Toyota WS.

Vicen says:

General Tips:

For specialty coolants and fluids, buy from appropriate dealerships (Mazda, Subaru) for cost savings.

Stick with OEM fluids or trusted aftermarket options.

Regular maintenance helps prevent expensive transmission issues.

When to Change:

Engine coolant: Refer to specific intervals (e.g., 5 years, 50,000 miles) depending on the type of coolant.

Transmission fluid: Every 30,000 miles or 3 years for ATF T-IV; every 60,000 miles or 6 years for ATF WS and CVT fluid.

What to Change:

Engine coolant: Replace based on specified intervals and type of coolant.

Transmission fluid: Replace based on specified intervals and type of transmission fluid.

Remember to refer to your Toyota's owner's manual for precise recommendations based on your vehicle's model and year. Following these guidelines can help you maintain the health of your vehicle's cooling and transmission systems.

Engine Coolant:

There are different types of coolants for various Toyota models.

For older models (up to 2003-2004), there's a red coolant and pink coolant.

Pink coolant (super long life) is used in newer models and hybrids. Replace it at 100,000 miles or 5 years, then every 5 years or 50,000 miles.

Stick with Toyota coolant or reputable aftermarket options.

Different models may require different quantities of coolant.

Transmission Fluid:

There are different transmission fluids for different types of transmissions and dipstick colors.

If your transmission dipstick is red, use ATF T-IV fluid. Replace it every 30,000 miles or 3 years.

If your transmission dipstick is black or non-existent, use ATF WS (World Standard) fluid. Change it every 60,000 miles or 6 years.

Toyota Corolla with CVT transmission requires specific CVT fluid. Change it every 60,000 miles.

Robin Sattahip says:

I own a Toyota in Thailand and because there are so many counterfeit Chinese knock-offs branded Toyota and packaged in fake Toyota packaging, I buy things such as coolant and filters from the dealer. They are not as expensive here as buying those parts from the dealer would be in the USA. You can easily tell a knock-off Chinese oil filter because it weighs nearly nothing. It's a manual transmission and I've never bought an automatic in my life so I'll be stuck with the car indefinitely. Nothing worse to me than a 4-cylinder automatic.
Mechanics here are cheap but incredibly incompetent, I do most of the work myself when I can.

Ed John says:

My 2017 RAV 4 only has 22000 miles on but is 6 years old… should I change cvt transmission fluid??

All Things Wood Heat & Maple says:

I wish you were my tech when I was in the Toyota dealership years ago about my ScionXD trans. jumping They would not budge on the no change fluid for life BS. I finally had them pull the pan (my cost) and look for shavings etc. Turns out the pan was free of debris but the fluid looked like total black crap. I stuck my finger in it while under the car and asked the tech and service manager would you leave this in your tranny? Nothing but dumb blank looks. Needless to say I service as much as I can DIY and go to a different garage for other repairs.

Ed John says:

You didn’t mention the years for cvt change? Only 60k miles…

Flores_Jaiman_PR says:

Hi there. Thank You for you knowledge that has been share with us. I saw the part I video, and you mentioned that Toyota Oil is from Mobil1. I owned a Tacoma and a Honda Civic. By any chance, Do you know what Honda motor oil engine they use?
