Great video. My Solara is 2001. Are there any differences? Also, I could not see how the window attaches to the rest of the top. It is separate on the 2001. Can you explain?

Don Pais says:

This guy does a great job, I've used his video's on this and other interior work and it has helped me greatly. Thank you.

¡Gracias señor Cruz por producir este video en inglés!
My top replacement job took 3 days, I didn't rush, and it turned out perfect. I am an advanced craftsman DIYer but this job was intimidating! I must have watched certain sections of your video close to 10 times while I was doing the job to be sure I understood. You made it look so easy! The back corners were the biggest challenge, getting the top pulled over the rear bow after installing the end screws and "one finger" of staples in each end.
The rain gutter in the back was my biggest concern. I bought a repair kit from Hydro-E-Lectric out of Florida off of Ebay and it replaced the cracked vinyl parts and reused the existing plastic molding under the trunk lid. My original rain gutter had horizontal tears where the vertical heat-sealed seam reinforcements shrank and pulled at the vinyl.
One item that I didn't see in your video, and I really wondered about for hours, was attaching the two 1-inch ballistic nylon straps that connect the rear molding (secured by 4 nuts) to the rear bow and limit the downward travel of the rear bow when the top is opened. I couldn't decide if those straps were important or not. In the end I decided that those straps were needed to preserve the rain gutter, to minimize anything contacting or rubbing against it, so I stapled them in place after the top was secured to the rear bow.
After the rear bow was secured the rest was pretty easy as you said. The trick then was being careful with the glue, I used 3M spray adhesive which wanted to get everywhere.
Thanks again for a wonderfully informative video!

Is this procedure the same for earlier Solaras, such as 2001 or 2002?

Philip Watson says:

Thank You So Much for making this Video. And for Making one in English too.
My Step-son & I have to install the Top ourselves because we Can't Afford to have someone do it.
However, we Did Buy the Good Top (one like you installed) and after watching your Video about 4 or 5 Times and Writing Down all kinds of notes, I'm ready now to put the New Top on.
I couldn't have done this without an Honorable Man like you putting this Video out.
God Bless You & Your Family..
(Btw… Your English is Pretty Good)

Anyone who is a grammar nazi are annoying and need to find hobbies in their lives. First off, it's your second language. Second, as long as you are coherent and speaking with clarity where we understand, *that's all that matters*

Санек Иванов says:

What kind or type of glue did you use for it???

game.

Joel Pierce says:

Thanks for making the video in English . The video is excellent, English is very good also.

twogigahz says:

Thanks a million – my top came out perfect, but what a job. Be sure to check out your rain rail in the back – mine had cracks in the vertical seams. Since there's no replacement part we can buy, I ended up putting a vinyl pool patch over the seams. It worked out very well – silicone would work well, too!

Wow what a video. You explain so well and its very easy to understand and also to see. I do have a question. The car you dis is a 2008 Solara and looks like mine with same color. I heard the vinyl rear liner behind the rear window suppose to help water move to the drains under. Its also said that lots of people are having leaks in the trunk, jack hub and also under the seats water just pours in and everyone is saying that the Vinyl liner gets damaged and starts to fall apart and thats the reason the water gets in the car. Toyota have no parts for this and the wait is over 1 year for this vinyl liner. Are you able to make a generic one to fix the problem? ty

(Meca, thanks for making this video in English! Whereas your original version was so good, I feared I was missing so much as my Spanish is so poor. Now that I see and hear your English version. I was right…I was missing so much by not understanding the language well. Your English is very good. Good job and thanks again!)

Brewski Steve says:
