How to Change the Water Pump on V6 Toyota and Lexus 2GR-FE 3.5L Engine

A Toyota master diagnostic technician shows How to change the water pump on V6 Toyota and Lexus 2GR-FE 3.5L The easy way!

Coolant bleeding video on this engine can be found here:

In this much requested video I show you all the tips and tricks on replacing the often regarded as a difficult job of replacing the water pump on Toyota and Lexus’s popular V6 2GR-FE 3.5L engine without removing the engine and totally DIY with basic tools

This job is for medium level DIY mechanics who have done some basic tasks that are a bit more difficult than say an oil change. Basically if you’ve done your own spark plugs on this engine, the water pump will not be difficult.

The tools you need are very basic as you see in this video. Also I always recommend you use original Toyota water pump and coolant for replacement.

Parts needed :
Water Pump ( Original Water Pump includes all needed O Rings)
2 Gallons of coolant in most applications

Thank you very much for this great video. Could you please do a video on how to replace a third brake light in car equipped with a rear sunshade like the 2011 Avalon you have right there. There are almost no videos about it on YouTube.

Another great video AMD. So is there a certain year when Toyota started using the new version water pump on the 2GR-FE engines?

Arnold Rimmer says:

What a PITA. Pretty sure the water pump will fail on my 2007 2GR-FE at some point but I won't be changing the pump myself.

Anytime I dive into uncharted waters like a doing a job I've never done before, I look at videos like this to give me an idea of what I am in for. Thank you AMD for sharing you knowledge clearly and in an intriguing way 😉 !

Tom Liu says:

I would just let the dealer do it, it’s a complex job, not any DIY guys can do this, certainly not me

Randy Duncan says:

Thanks for the great video! When did they switch to the new style pump that lasts longer. Watching this video is a reminder to keep that coolant fresh!

Ted Pogorzelski says:

as usual, great explanation of the steps needed to complete the task at hand !

Jake Botelho says:

Great video, after doing a lot of them they still are not anywhere near my favourite job. It’s even worse for room on a hybrid.
Now that we are having t-stat failures on most 3.5l its a job that’s more common.

G Flores says:

Great video
Keep it coming
Thank you

Happy Guy says:

Hi my friend AMD n friends

So how many hours does the Toyota stealership charge for the water pump job? So knowing that the dealer will charge you the full pop of engine removal to do the job??
