It went smoothly thanks to your video and tips also camera-source instruction was good too.
How’d your install go?
ran out of room ^^^. Yeah for the cam to work with your head unit, more than likely you will have a wire that gets signal from ur reverse light to tell if you going in reverse or not, tie that there and use a 12v constant to keep the cam on if u want the head unit to control it. Your head unit….like mine should work in both modes.
Although I mentioned I wanted the cam to ultimately turn off with the reverse backup which is what is showed, I ended up re-wiring it to a12v constant. I think I used my window wipers ( took a piece of wire and inserted it with the wiper fuse in the kickpanel fuse box). That way, the 12v wouldn’t always be hot. I’m not sure to be honest with you if the 09 tacoma tailgate latch will work, assuming there is a pre-made hole. I’m sure you can get creative though though with your own bracket.
I just ordered a kit from camerasource but I didn’t get the pop N lock handle. I hope the camera module mount onto the 2009 factory Tacoma tailgate handle. I have a DVD player as well with a 7″ screen I think. On my headunit there’s a function where you can view the camera. If I want that to work do I have the find a constant 12V?
yeah, should work all the way up to 2012. years from there add are 2005-2012. I put the hyperlink of what I actually got in the description. You can opt for there gentex cam + poplock camera latch kit for a discounted price too. I didn’t do that because I already had a dvd head unit that I wanted to use (it’s bigger…). hehehe
Do you know if the camerasource camera will mount onto 09 and up Tacoma stock tailgate handle?
Glad to help. shoot me a comment should you have any questions…It’s not too bad, rather easy actually. Have fun and good luck.
Thanks for the video. I feel somewhat confident now with installing it myself on my 05 Tacoma. Also saving me from drilling into my tailgate to feed the wires through.
