Great job on your trouble shooting. Yes…having the valve adjustment too tight would cause the valve to stay open and cause low compression.

Thanks a ton man, helped guide me and my grandfather get our bike riding. the problem ended up being the exhaust valve was too tight which we believe was causeing it to not fully close making a lack of compression

For this the Clymer Manual M381.
I grew up in the country back when the Atari 2600 was new. There was no internet and we had to travel to the big city to watch cable TV. A young boy has got to have something constructive to do. Luckily my father was a great mechanic, body-man and avid do it yourself-er and I enjoyed helping him anytime I could. The small engines class I took in Junior High was a major influence as well. Built a motor for my minibike out of discarded junk parts. That got me a A+

If you just got it, be sure to replace the oil and filter. The oil filter is on the right hand side of the engine just below the oil filler. There is a cover with 3 bolts. There should be an o-ring for the cover, a spring and the filter. K&N makes an oil filter part number KN-131. There is a round site window on the side of the motor and the oil level should be maintained in about the middle, between the F & L marks. Book says to use SAE 10W-40, SE or SF rated motor oil.

…You could have a cracked case, worn out seal, a worn out o-ring on your engines oil sump screen cover, missing bolt or stripped oil drain plug. I am sorry that I can not be more specific, but there is a plethora of things that could be causing your machine problems. Looked on Amazon and you can purchase the manual for less than $30.00.

…You need to determine which of these 3 items is giving you the problem, then figure out what is wrong with that item. Say that you have no spark, this could be your plug, coil, CDI unit, pickup coil, kill switch or wiring. All of these need to be checked. This is why the Clymer Manual is a good thing to have.

Oil coming out of the bottom of your engine, you will need to clean that area up and take a good look at it. Unbolt the foot rest you will get a better view of the bottom…continued…

First, if you don’t already have it, I recommend buying the Clymer Manual M381. This is a great book and has helped me alot.

Not starting. Do you have compression, spark and fuel? Any of these will cause you grief.

If yours is a LT185 and not a LT125 you will have a compression release lever on your handle bars, which has an adjustment as well.

You could have weak or no spark, weak or no compression or bad gas, a gummed up carburetor, clogged fuel line or a bad fuel pump… continued…

carb trouble is the biggest thing with these.I have 2 185 4 wheelers and a 125 3 wheeler all run but 2 don’t like to idle.

I would say Craigslist is a good place to sell them. If they are in decent running condition they should be worth at least $250.00 a piece. Pristine condition around $500.00 You can even make a link in your add and put a video of them on Youtube.
