Great video. I broke a stud the other day because I didn’t watch this video
before trying to close the oil filter compartment. :(

TheDavidlyster says:

Great video, thanks!

TheHumanEquilibrium says:

Thank You for the video. I did my first oil change myself after watching. I
didn’t have a torque wrench but I was able to tighten everything back up
without breaking it.

Great vid. Makes me want to try it on my own. Just one comment though.
The part in the vid that you had a friend lightly push down on the
aftermarket exhaust to save buying new exhaust gaskets, I wonder whether
new gaskets would be cheap insurance against damaged studs or exhaust.
Good thing I have a factory exhaust ;-). Keep up the great work!

Good vid, im about to do my first oil change on the bike and i definitely
feel 100% confident after watching. my only advice would be sound quality,
maybe make the video after shop hours haha 😛 keep up the good work and
thanks you!

Just got my bike in October it costs about $80 at the shop and I think that
with this video I’ll just go ahead and do it myself! I have an 08′ gs500f,
totally in Love!!! <3 You did a great job on this video by the way! It was
the first one that came up when I google Motorcycle Oil Change :D

robertgrubba says:

Great tutorial, but I have one question. As far as I have heard, oil level
should be checked on warm engine (bike should stay approx 20 minutes off
before measuring), because oil grows in its volume while beeing hot. If You
fill your GS500 to max mark while cold, and do the measurement as it stays
in manual (description above) the oil level will be over max. mark. I’ve
heart that it may cause leaks on clutch and gear bolt sealings. Could You
advise me what is good level on cold engine?

initialmoe says:

no, its air to oil cooled.

Thanks for all the GREAT TUTORIAL VIDS!!!. They have all come in pretty
handy. I just bought my first bike a 2006 Gs 500f, and I love it!!! I was
wondering though, if you can make a video in regards to “How to remove the
forks on a gs500f specifically a 2006 model, and if you can include any
aftermarket parts, that can be used for the fork build. Thanks again for
the Great Videos. Much appreciated. Al

Great tutorial, dude. I definitely feel confident doing this now that I
watched your video. Obviously I’m not very mechanical and I’m new to bikes.
Thanks!

I just bought a 04 suzuki gs500f and I don’t know anything about it.your
video help out a lot.. question does this motorcycle take antafreeze?

Stacy Peterson says:

I have a 2006 GS500F and today my husband and I will be changing the
oil…well, I will be, he will supervise. I found your video helpful and
glad I got a visual before attempting myself. I also need to change a bulb
in instrument panel and hoping you have a video for that as well. Thinking
of trying a purple led, since I have purple lights for fun else where on my
bike. Do you think it would be an issue if I did it there as well?

BaltimoreGS says:

I have always followed the method in the 1989 Suzuki factory service
manual which checks the oil when it is fairly cold. “Keep the motorcycle
upright. Start up the engine and allow it to run for several seconds at
idling speed. Turn off the engine and wait about one minute, then check the
oil level. If the level is below mark “F”, add oil to that level.” So the
factory manual only has you running the engine for seconds (not minutes)
and waiting just a minute before checking the oil level.

brisscuss says:

awesome vid. thanks a ton for making this vid. very well done!

BaltimoreGS says:

Over filling can lead to problems. Much like the type of oil to use, there
are varying opinions on the proper way to check the oil level. I’ve heard
people say to do it hot, do it cold, do it on the center stand, do it
standing up…

I meant to say I want to check the seal, I thought it was good. Must have
missed something

rasagu08 says:

I have a 2005 gs500. Just changed the oil and oil filter myself for the
first time. Got it all set but it leaks a drop of oil when turned on
through the oil filter plate at the bottom… The oil will drain out
through the oil filter if removed right? Or should I drain the oil first
through the oil plug?

Juras Ldz says:

Thanks for that , safe money

2ndchildhood says:

Thanks for the easy step by step advice. I’ve changed my oil once and
luckily didn’t use the wrong type of oil. Keep these GS500 vids coming.
