Some basic hand tools and a can do attitude can take you a long way and save thousands of dollars.
Common engine failures
*************************
blown head gasket
bent piston rods
hydro locked engine due to water getting sucked into engine
rod knock
bearing knock
piston slap
extreme wear and low compression
turbo charger failure
VVTI rattle
Seized engine
Overheating engine
running an engine without oil
sludge build up
If your engine has any of those symptoms, then you have two choices. Rebuild the engine or replace the engine. Rebuilding an engine is often very expensive due to engine parts cost thousands of dollars. So most people go for an engine swap with a used engine. Mind you that if you correctly change oil regularly enough, you can easily avoid engine damages. BTW not replacing the rear main seal while i was at it is a joke 🙂

Very informational, great video!
Is it possible to put a honda civic type r engine to a Mazda Astina?
small tip remove exhaust manifold and pulleys and brackets before pulling engine if you can. This will give so much more space and less chance of scratching paint
Maybe I should learn how to change oil before learning about this.
To each his own. Some are mechanical inclined. Some not
All fun and game when you take engine out of your not so old car to learn and then can't put it back together
Thanks for the video. I'm not installing my engine a mechanic friend will be at our house. However I needed to know all the things to purchase aside from the engine (fluids etc). This was SUPER helpful! Now I understand why it's so expensive to do the clutch, A/C and alternator. Thanks for highlighting it might be time to do a radiator flush etc. My friend will be annoyed with me with all my add ons but I'll pay him!
do you need to reprogram the computer to start the engine when you place it?
Good video other then suggestion of stop leak. Why not just change the rear main seal gasket thus stopping the leak
I got stuck on taking off the hood
I don't bother locking up my car at night. I just remove the engine before I go to bed.
Deserves like for all the hardworking he put in this video behind the scenes
If you do this for the first time:
1. Get the official Manufactrers Manual for the torque specs and
2. EVERY TIME you disconnect something, you should mark both ends with a number. That way you make sure that you can reassemble everything correctly.
PLEASE MAKE SURE that you torque in a cross patter, always go diagonal to the fastener that you just torqued. This will insure that you have even torque and you don't have any pry on anything. This is a good practice for anyone installing anything, it's not just wheels on your car. TORQUE IN CROSS PATTERN. Other than that, everything looked good, really happy with this video. Just make sure to go slow and take LOTS OF PICTURES!!!! Good luck guys. Still really happy with this guys' video. THANKS A LOT DIY GUY!
Great video! I got curious what it takes to replace an engine and this video does not disappoint!
