I was able to time my 1993 Escudo by watching your video. But now I need to set the valves which I don't know much about. Could you please make a video showing how to set the vavles for 1993 16 valve engine please? Thanks. I have subscribed. And when can I expect to see it?

Is there suppose to be a spacer by chance that sits behind the crankshaft timing belt pulley

Is the engine in this video the G16B engine? Does anyone knows for sure if this engine ( in the video) is an interference or non interference engine?

Robert says:

Hey Tony, very clear Thanks! What is the stock timing in degrees? Your Opinion on how much I can safely advance timing? When I was young I used to advance the distributor until I got ping then retard it until it was gone. Is there a noticeable increase in performance on the 1.6 16v mpfi? Mine is in a Samurai with sidekick wiring harness done by TT.

Yo yo highway 83!! My 95 lsi 16 valve won’t fire up. What would be your first idea to check?

mike plitnick says:

Tony, I watched your video on stabbing the distributor but its a different setup than this engine and distributor, I am having starting issues after installing a new reman head on my x90 1.6 16v. I have changed a few belts on these, and 2 heads, and each time I have set my distributor like this, Now I learn when you pull the distr. there is an arrow notch on the shaft housing and a small dot on the shaft, which should line up, You will have to back off a bit to install so the rotation will line it back to no. 4, I keep getting several other people telling me that is wrong, The marks on the shaft should line up to no. 1?? If I spin it to no. 1 the shaft marks do not line up, I tried it yesterday and about blew the spark plug out from a backfire, But at no.4 it starts at very low idle only for a few seconds and quits and will not restart!, Why?

Alejandro López says:

Hey! cant believe i've found your channel, do you happen to have a video where you show how to remove the camshaft? my 1997 sidekick is facing an extremely loss of power, and its because the camshaft pulley, the camshaft and that little piece that its between the two got wasted, thanks!

José Carlos Junior says:

brother, your video helped me to solve a big problem, that I have when performing the rectification of my engine, I was not able to put it to the point and make the engine work. but luckily I found your video, and there was no error, I just had to adjust the distributor in the right position and everything worked correctly, hugs from Brazil…

I have a 1997 Geo Tracker 1.6L 16v and Im doing the exact fix on the key way, have the crank gear TDC and the "E" on the Cam at TDC and my distributor rotor is lined up at plug #4. So, you have the distributor rotor lined up with plug #4 in the video but people are telling me that valve timing is done to #4 firing and ignition timing is done to #1? Im confused by that. Could you please clarify that I am on the right track?

Mine has the same problem, it's a 1989 JLX auto transmission.
What should i tell my mechanic to set my timing again ?
1- Engine doesn't have enough power
2- Transmission jerks when i put it in reverse
3- 2nd gear also jerks but 3rd n 4 th seems okaay
4- It has a vaccum issue (thats for sure).

Note: Timing was done but i don't know whether he removed the computer or not !!

What should i ask him to do ?
I have found your channel and watching you from Pakistan ☺
I hope you will help me out Sir !?
Thanks in advance
