if this bolt fails, it can have some serious consequences, but for the most part it is the primary pulley bearing failure that causes the CVT to fail, or a belt failure. Keep an eye on the bolt and you should be fine.

That was the noise i heard when i was in the corners. now it’s gone..33,333 miles

AFAIR The bolt in question holds in place the CVT steering.

One can clearly see the damage – if you allow the bolt to get lots of clearance, it will amplify the damage.

Thanks again for the reply. I thought the tip (above the thread) of the bolt sits inside something. I thought it was holding it in place. If it doesn’t do anything, then why doesn’t Suzuki make the bolt short enough so the end doesn’t go all the way up to the area being grinded down?

Can I really just cut the end of the bolt and not have to worry about it?
thanks again.

LeDude00 says:

alas the offending part is a main component of the CVT configuration, not something that one can easily get to or modify…. but if you do get in there and make the mod, let us know… the bolt is only $4.00 and it’s easy to replace every 15k miles or so, cheap insurance that could otherwise turn into a $3k repair bill

THEJEDEYEMASTER says:

what actually is grinding the edges of the bolt? Wouldn’t it be better to just chop the part of the bolt after the threads so the part that’s grinding the bolt doesn’t fall get more damage? It’s obviously grinding against something.

LeDude00 says:

Inspect the bolt at your own discretion, I replaced mine at 32k miles, will be inspecting it every 15k miles and replace it if necessary. No hardened rule for this preventive maintenance, varies from bike to bike.

Great site….thanks LeDude.

Thanks for your quick reply to my question.

I did watch this/your DYI vid on changing this bolt, However I must have missed the reason why it needs to be chnged.

LeDude00 says:

check the DIY for this on my burgman center… it’s purely a preventive choice, I did mine at 33k miles, a $4.00 peace of mind sort of thing… no symptoms so to speak, just inspect the bolt for excessive wear and tear before it brakes…

UTubeGlennAR says:

What is the reason this bold need to be changed?

Any symptoms I should look for on my Burggy?
