my ea82 subaru used to go through cables.. I got a tip to reverse wind the
cable that broke, simply flip one end for the other..add new ends. A tough
chassis can stop this, but the tip was good (I still do that today for my
87 GL)

I HAVE HAD 4 SUBARU 360s AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE E-BRAKE CABLES .
OF COURSE THEY WERE 25 YEARS YOUNGER AT THE TIME ! I GUESS THAT COULD HAVE
SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT .

Something that will help keep parking brake cables from seizing up: Use
your parking brake as often as possible. Every time you park the vehicle,
engage the parking brake. The more often that cable is moved, the less
likely it is to seize up.
