Pro tip while flush grinding steel to aluminum- when the sparks go away you’re only hitting the aluminum

A word of Caution writing estimates on Vintage autos. Expect the Worse. Much easier to reduce the Total , than ask for More.

You carnt see due to the video is parsiley obstructions

Scott says:

This video would have been better if it wasn't obstructed

Justin Brown says:

Undoubtedly someone else as mentioned this, but I'm pretty certain you didn't tap deep enough. As far as I know those taps start slightly smaller diameter intentionally, you have to tap past the tip to cut to the full diameter. Probably something around a quarter to half inch.

Chuck Erickson says:

Applying a heavy coat of grease on the drill bit will help catch the metal chips. Drilling slow and cleaning, reapplying grease will help with this process. Galling is likely the cause of the stripped aluminum threads. Removing bolts in aluminum should be done by hand using the worrying method. Working it back and fourth in tiny increments until it moves freely. Heat can also help release galled threads. Stainless has the same issues. Slow and easy rainman will save you from these issues. This is motorcycle 101….:)
