Good Video! Helped me out a lot on my 1998 Subaru Forester. Thanks!

briansmobile1 says:

Yes. On all counts. Sometimes I use is with the paper gasket. It holds it
in place so the holes stay lined up.

flycast says:

Nice videos. Do you have anything on how to replace the rear wheel bearing
and hub on a forester? The local shop says its a job that requires a press
machine and it involves taking out a really long bolt. In short, not for
someone without training and special tools. Is this true?

Joanne Adah K says:

What kind of gasket sealer do you use ? Thanks for all the videos !

briansmobile1 says:

I did a vid on this, but it was too long to process through my editing
software. (2 hrs long)

briansmobile1 says:

@hp11208 Some videos I do well enough that there are in fact NO
questions….. (crickets chirping……) Or just no one watches it? IDK?

barcoc4 says:

I am not sure of your level of expertise, I am not a master mechanic or a
novice either, but I was able to remove the rear knuckle and have a shop
remove the bearing using a press. The only special tool I used (have) would
be an 1/2′ air gun, of course without an air compressor the air gun would
be useless. It was a 5 out of 10, for me. Total job cost was around $60.00
for the bearing (Timken @Autozone) and $40.00 for the press, because it was
a friend of mine. Other shops said around $80.00

Mobile. Yes.

Rincon009 says:

Thanks for replying. That sucks but I think I’m gonna pull the trigger on
the purchase. Keep up the good vids.

briansmobile1 says:

I use Permatex Right Stuff gasket maker as sealant. 3M weather strip
adhesive works well too.

I hear Kerli, haha.

fitch303 says:

Is it possible to change the water pump without removing the timing belt or
tensioner? thanks

briansmobile1 says:

Thanks! I’ll be sure to have it off next time. ; )

briansmobile1 says:

Thank you. I like them for the most part. Unfortunately the head gasket
issue is worse on these than it’s predecessors. They’re still worth it
though.

KER0423 says:

Brian do you use permatex right stuff alone as a water pump gasket no paper
gasket? I’m also replacing oil pan gasket can I use permatex for a stand
alone gasket for the oil pan too?

the music dont help, but good video

Rick Wetherald says:

Tomorrow morning I’m do a timing belt job with water pump and all idlers on
my new (to me) Forester with 129k miles.. I’ve got enough mechanical
know-how to get the job done with simple written instructions, but videos
like this are a huge help. Since I won’t have the motor out of the car, it
helps to see it out in the open so I know exactly how everything lines up.
Thanks for posting this up!

Rincon009 says:

Dude, your videos are really good! You do a great job on them! What is your
opinion of the motor in the 2006 Forester XT? Thanks

briansmobile1 says:

@rnwetherald You’re welcome and good luck!

Zorobyte says:

Awesome videos. I think most of it is most people don’t work on their own
Subarus that watch youtube and vice versa. Videos like this taught me to
replace headgaskets on my 90 legacy. Time to do the 02 Forester.

Dan Clegg says:

So how mobile are you. Where will you go to? Do you like to fish?
