I really wish you lived nearby because I think you might be the only honest
mechanic in America. Just kidding, but good mechanics are hard to find.

Jonathan Wijnaldum says:

Hey Brian, love the video, but i need to ask you something. i’m located in
the Caribbean and i just bought a Subaru forester out of Japan, i notice
that am burning alot of fuel, i would put in like US $20 and before the end
of the day my fuel light comes on, what the cause of that? thank for your
help in advance.

+briansmobile1 Your videos are so informative, and very much appreciated.
Youtube needs more channels like yours. Knowledge is power.

I’ve got an 06 WRX, 2.5L Turbo, 42k miles, that has been giving me some
headaches. The codes thrown are P0340(CPS Bank A) and P0016(crankshaft
correlation) I dropped it off at the garage down the street from my work
that ‘specializes’ in Subaru’s. He supposedly checked timing and swapped
out the CPS sensor, I think he just reset the ECU. A day later, lose power
at ~4KRPM and engine takes 5seconds of cranking to start. I replaced the
crank sensor and checked timing on just the drivers side(didn’t have time
for the other side) and am still having the same problem, same codes. Now
that it’s getting cold out, it will fall flat on it’s face and die if I
don’t let it warm up for 5 minutes. The CEL is intermittent, sometimes will
go away for 3 days, but always comes back. Car runs fine other than that. I
thought it skipped a tooth and will be getting both covers off tomorrow to
properly check timing.
If you have a spare minute to brainstorm, what might be causing this? I’d
really appreciate any insight.

Thanks and keep up the educational videos!

Owns an 06 legacy. wants to do a tune-up… is afraid he breaks his car. T.T

Modeltnick says:

Glad you asked! If you use a vacuum cleaner and the intake valve in the
engine is open, you will suck fuel/air mixture into your vacuum cleaner.
The electric motor in the vacuum has brushes which arc much like a spark
plug and….kaboom! Trust me, this has happened (not to me)!

playstation2bigs says:

Hey brian in the spark plug installing we will never use a torque wrench
anymore ? just feel the crush washer to crushed and bind and stop
tightening ??

1ownjoo2 says:

@briansmobile1 Well i’ve always used copper anti sieze on my Jeep, because
of the Alluminum heads and steel plugs. But i was told by a bunch of
reputable Jeep guru’s to not use Copper anti sieze with plugs on Jeeps i
forgot the reason for it but i remember it was really wierd. So instead i
have been using the silver stuff which is alluminum i believe

briansmobile1 says:

@CURBECK THANKS! I should do that! I like the sooner or later vid you did.
Was that with Windows movie maker?

MichaelCosta84 says:

@briansmobile1 You don’t have to pull the battery, at the dealership, all
we do is take a spark plug socket, put it on a 3 inch extension, then a
swivel, then an 11 inch extension and we can get the plugs out without
having to touch the battery.

IsidorShishkovski says:

Don’t wanna butter up but dude! You are awesome! I love watching your
videos and learn from you! Keep up the great work!

briansmobile1 says:

You’re welcome Nick!

rearwheelslider says:

not in todays world. tune up is plugs only

briansmobile1 says:

@1ownjoo2 It’s up to you man. I would clean it with brake parts cleaner and
compressed air and give it a week of service and then look again.

BAXMAN68 says:

Thanks for the great tip on turning those wires 180+ degrees. Awesome video
( like always) 🙂

TravisDougherty919 says:

intake … the cone style k&n but the flow sensor plug has no where go now
and my dash flashes trans oil temp light on my dash what do i do

Brians4x4Life says:

cool beard man

tim morris says:

you need a spark plug socket with a magnet in there , ive got one and i
tell ya its soo much better than a spark plug socket with a rubber boot
inside which once oil gets onto it swells and is then deemed useless 🙂

tigergreg8 says:

Thanks for saying what I’ve been thinking, I just bought a 2007 Legacy and
I have to agree, I feel the new Legacy looks like an old mans car to me. It
lost any sporty look it had.

trunitemare says:

Brian, you are the man. I know you hear this a lot, but could you please
make more Legacy (preferably 06 and up) videos. Anything that your
customers ask you to do on their Legacy’s, just film it and upload. Your
videos are much appreciated.

youtubasoarus says:

Great stuff Brian. Those boxer engines look like they could be a pain to
work on.

reap62 says:

is that a boxer engine? i thought they were coil overs?… i did an 05 and
it was the same exact thing except coil over

iceclimber2001 says:

Took my plug boots out last night, but didn’t turn them more than, let’s
say 90 degrees. Then I saw this video tonight. Should I worry about my 2002
TS wagon? I’ve got the valve cover off, since there was oil in the plug
wells, and I’m about to change out the gaskets and tube seals. Any advice?
A little debris landed on tubes when I took the cover off. Any concerns? I
wiped it off with a paper towel best I could.

spelunkerd says:

Nice summary, Brian.
