Very informative, well done.

Shaun Butterfield says:

Brian, I freaking love your videos! I created a channel just so I could
tell you. I’ve been watching them for a long time.

nourdaddy56 says:

hey im thinking about buying a 98 outback, what signs should i look for
when going to check the car out for the first time

tonio180sx says:

Great video mate. Im in Australia. I had all the exact same heating symtoms
wirh my 98 wrx. im in the process of pulling out the engine and replacing
the head gaskets myself.

dubyajayyo says:

On my 96 Outback: I see oil on the driver’s side valve cover seam, but the
head seam looks clean. On the passenger side, both the valve cover and
head appear to be leaking oil. Background: overheated on the freeway.
Limped home, saw oil in the coolant (but no coolant in the oil). Erratic
overheating behavior ever since. Heard you can ruin the emissions sensor
this way, so I parked it until I could get it fixed. Looked closer and saw
the signs of leakage. I just started digging into it and rewatched your
vid. Starting to think I should get one of those used engines from Japan
instead of replacing head gaskets. Thoughts?

T Taylor says:

Thank you!

Omar Chisolm says:

@brianmobie1 hey man. have a issue my 2002 dodge stratus have no heat in
cabin. i swap stat, and changed coolant, and bled system but still have
issue. when car hot i turn on heat and it works for a couple mins then the
temp guage starts droppin and it gets cool. any ideas?

Bassin Lunkers says:

Need Help asap…I have replaced the engine and transmission earlier this
year. My dad filled the radiator with water for a week and the engine
overheated. I had replaced the water pump gasket and bypass hose but the
engine still leaks. What gasket do I have to replace to stop the coolant
from leaking?

Tony Raven says:

my Subie forester is doing just fine – but I thought you explanation of
erratic overheating due to combustion gas getting trapped in the thermostat
housing was fricking brilliant! I saw the same thing happen with a Mercedes
SL320 – Like you, I have to know why. Thanks.

briansmobile1 says:

You’re pretty smart. I like that about you!

Bayer-Z28 says:

Good video dude.. I’ve always heard of this, but this clears it up a lot.
Starting to want a WRX lately. I want AWD.

EdDogg83 says:

The symptoms with this engine are exactly what I spoke about my problems
with the impreza in another of your videos. I did pull heads on it and saw
the driver side having the chucky and some of it hardened white gunk in the
coolant passage, been fun trying to get it out with a light touch and a
flat head screwdriver

AlwaysHopeful87 says:

Great video. I’m going to try the 4 holes on my Venture 3.4. (Pretty sure
it is not upper intake manifold.) The symptoms are almost exactly the same
as you described. 2 questions: Are the 4 holes to let the coolant circulate
or the gases to move around? (My guess is both.) Where do the gases go when
the 4 holes are drilled? (My guess is back to the cylinder at hopefully out
the exhaust). Thank you.

briansmobile1 says:

It’s the EGR set up. It’s too much heat at the back of the head.

briansmobile1 says:

Don’t have to pull the engine.

EdDogg83 says:

Thats the idea and it seems to work, I just need to try and find a happy
balance to get heat back in the car

Ryan Dickinson says:

I know this is an older video but i have a question. I noticed the other
day that i was leaking oil.. i thought it was coming from the oil pan but
upon further investigating i found oil marks coming from where the HG is.
I’m not over heating and there is nothing coming out of my tail pipe. do
you think it is a blown HG? or something else. also, i have an EJ251 from
an 02 impreza with 130k miles on it.

chris michail says:

Hey Brian! i own a Subaru Foerster 1997 turbo jap import EJ20G………
Over the last few weeks i noticed that both fans are working overtime and
that their not stopping. So i had a check & i went straight for the bottom
hose which i found cold and the top hot. Also noticed the the coolant tank
is creating alot of presure almost like their traped air inside. Now theirs
no bleeder on this model so it’s hard to bleed out.

erngre1 says:

Brian thank you for your vids. They do help people like myself. I am just a
plugger that wants to do for myself. Make my own way in life and do for
myself. And keep what I have running smooth. I do not understand this car.
My first ever Japanese manufactured car ever. It has put a bad taste in my
mouth. I just wanted a good 4 wheel drive vehicle to get me through the
winter seasons. It (This Subaru) is a nightmare. I think something is more
wrong with these cars than just the engines.

Matthew Hume says:

You don’t index your plugs?

Leahcar Ha says:

Also, since the second time I have been putting in 1 to 1 1/2 pints of
antifreeze every week, and it seems to be eating it.

indianchief741 says:

Are you going to use stock gaskets from subaru? nice subaru here in town
that I’m thinking about buying, 2002 with 173,000 miles for $2995, clean
car, looks like new, so many bad reviews, scares me, I can work on
anything, see some of my videos, but for the trouble I hear that they have,
one would think that they were replaced at one time. buy or not to buy that
is the ???????

briansmobile1 says:

Thanks- they helped.

Miguel Sotelo says:

My 2003 subaru legacy is currently going through that stage right now, I
haven’t gotten a mechanic to help me fix the problem out here Los Angeles,
it’s been a week and 3 days with out moving. I need help finding the right
person for this job. Great video! I subscribed!

Camayeye Last says:

Wow u just described exactly what happend to me yesterday, im a do it ur
self kind of guy but always can use help, where r u from

Leahcar Ha says:

Thanks for the video. I have been trying to figure out what’s wrong with my
2000 outback (currently 170k miles). It has overheated twice on unusually
hot days (early June and late July). Both times the radiator was almost
empty (although I know it is not leaking and there is no antifreeze in the
oil. I drive it every day (~7 mi.) and has a rougher idle then I when I got
it in April on hot days but not liking hills the same. Someone suggested a
warped head gasket. Is that possible? Thanks again.

John Clark says:

mr frenchy i hate to break this to ya but mexico is in north america , lol

briansmobile1 says:

True that!

briansmobile1 says:

Welcome!

XxKPOPxX says:

Hey Brian, I have the exact same experience with my subaru right now. Exact
same diagnostics that you mentioned. I replaced the thermostat and checked
it but no success. Looks like I’m going in deep to change the head gaskets.
I’m at 260 000 km right now on my 1994 loyale. Have to tinker with her
every now and then to keep her running but she’s always been faithful to
me. I figure once I fix this issue she will be ready to go another 100k.
Thanks again for the videos man! Subscribed =)

Robert M says:

I just had a friend bring me a 98 forester and I know it needs head
gaskets. Just wanted to know what head gaskets you use? Thanks for the
great videos there going to help.

briansmobile1 says:

lol Thanks. I’ll spare you this time.
