Episode 1 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX 0-60 test before and after downpipe and tune

We take a look at how much faster a simple downpipe and tune can make the Subaru WRX. We start out with a baseline of 5.1 seconds from 0-60. Steve Pulzone tu…

Wrx accelerates faster than a still because its a 5spd vs a 6spd.

Kiss Kiss says:

Anymore Subaru Videos/episodes?

Clinterus says:

Was this a custom tune? Can you get similar results with a COBB stage 2
tune and a downpipe?

jason tavares says:

I put a downpipe on my 04 legacy gt and it is way quicker, sounds much
better aswell.

cxbra says:

A STOCK WRX does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds bone stock? Wow, I thought that would
have been STi territory :). What a beast of a fucking car with potential
for another 100+whp with less than $5000 in supporting mods! I love the
before and after, 4.5 seconds for a stock WRX with downpipe is ridiculous!

Matt Green says:

this is exactly what i was looking for!!. thanks for this vid guys

Hector Abreu says:

I use to own an 09 Wrx with full boltons meaning fuel pump short ram intake
tsudo down pipe with exhaust street tune by a friend 18.5 psi made 375hp I
was never able to find out my 0-60 am building a2002 Wrx soon am gonna post
a video

guano23 says:

Well I now know what my first upgrade is going to be for my ’11 WRX. Good
vid.

Roy Batty says:

You gotta let that turbo breath baby… hoorah!

ofsoundminds says:

295whp is not fucking 330crank hp…. even a conservative 20% loss would
mean you are loosing 65hp! awd is around 25 or so, making your “295” whp
well over 370crank

D Roberson says:

Great video dudes! Very polished! Looks to be professionally done, but I
know that this was done all in house. Great job!

mrydthecrazy2 says:

They never specifically said whether it’s catted or not, but that downpipe
is clearly catless.

WRXvsSTI says:

great video my dudes!

Gratz1333 says:

cool vid…bunch of people are gonna void there warranty for a bunch of
torque

Dusty Thibodaux says:

I am new to subarus and all wheel drive. I was just guessing. Obviously I
made a mistake. Im still learning. Thanks for the info though.

CaptinKraken says:

excellent video and info, definitely looking for more of these

Riujinzero says:

A 12 second sports car that does 5-6 sec 0 to 60s…it must spin the tires
through 1st, 2nd, 3rd and half of 4th, lol

SpecterJDX says:

Where did you get a catted down pipe for $210?!

boostaddict79 says:

The downpipe was catless and it was a special price I was offering at the
time ($250ish normally) The 09+ WRX’s typically dyno around 235-240whp on a
standard DynoJet. A Mustang dyno is probably 210-220whp. The difference
between an OTS Cobb map and a protune is usually pretty substantial. After
datalogging NUMEROUS cars with Cobb OTS maps, most of them knock repeatedly
and some of them severely! So in addition to making more power, a custom
tune is safer as well. Steve @ Pullz-On Tuning

Philip Ball says:

The comment on the stock whp numbers came up with someone else on reddit
too. Steve has the answer but I think it might be complicated by folks not
correcting to standard SAE conditions, and also the sensitive nature of
these engines in stock trim to knock. Steve can probably tell it better but
any hint of knock (or just some bad vibrations) can force the engine to
pull timing. The cobb dyno database and NASIOC has 2011s making anywhere
from 225 to 250, its a wide range.

MrRedcelica says:

verex exhausts for the noise factor, they got electronic butterflys you can
open and close to your discression.

msies431 says:

nice vid!!

onewheelup says:

hey thanks for the reply,i just wanted to hear the turbo, thats why the
CAI,im not used to having a car that you have to tune for HP.lol really,so
i guess its safe to say the 1st thing to get is a cobb AP right play around
then theirs the mods, like down pipe and stuff.i didnt know you could make
power w/ the cobb AP alone, let me ask you this,is it safe to buy a used
one? or one off of ebay? or go all out and call cobb or someplace and pay
big money? thanks again

BDX says:

Nice job on the vid, and the WRX was an excellent choice.

Dusty Thibodaux says:

so adding a downpipe and a tune to a wrx puts down 300 at the wheels? Thats
impossible. you would have to add about 110 hp to get 300 at the wheels .

onewheelup says:

ok back to the studio, aka your garage, lol just kidding bro,i have the same
car, blue pearl hatch, mines a 2013 and i wanted to get a AEM CAI and then
found out i need to buy the 500 dollar cobb access port,so i was like
forget it damn!!! and i really want the down pipe too,im like you i want to
enjoy the silence for a while,so if i live out in the middle of nowhere in
texas,i can get a hold of you guys and buy something to tune it ? is this
true? someone needs to come up with a frickin AP cobb=$

Imakeplanesboom says:

Lose some weight, your tune will feel quicker.

onewheelup says:

and of course i was joking with you a hundred percent ,i hope you know that,

Zack Dean says:

I don’t think these cars make 240WHP stock. I think it’s closer to
210-220WHP. Re-check your numbers.

Robert Perez says:

Thats perfect for me.

Emerald13 says:

I’m pretty sure Motortrend got 4.5 stock; though that’s probably with a 6k
clutch dump.

Adam Sidelsky says:

Great video, I own a stock silver 2012 hatchback and was wondering about
the performance difference with these simple mods. Do you think there might
be a major difference between a COBB tune and something open-source like
yours?

Arthur Sperotto says:

Awesome video!! Subbed!!

landmine55 says:

Really well put together video guys. Subscribed.

turbo_powahhh says:

forget the intake, just get the AP. you don’t need to upgrade the intake
until you’re pushing close to 400whp. stock one is just dandy. the AP is
where the real changes happen. most people experience a 20-30hp bump with
just stage 1, no intake. I’ve even heard some people experience a mild bump
in gas mileage. a better, smoother power line and delivery too.

somanymods says:

not all dynos are equal

Gratz1333 says:

my tuner sees cars after 2011 making less and less power tuned at stage 2

Garrett Magedson says:

How? I agree 300awhp for a dp is absurd but 110hp? Stock WRX’s dyno around
230-250. never 190…

Philip Ball says:

Well if they did it was on a cold day with more than perfect conditions.
Some magazines show times under 5 seconds but at least one of them I saw
used a rolling start because launching AWD cars consistently takes a little
practise. More to come on this subject as we are going to do a follow up
with a 2010 STi

Dustin Gentis says:

and i will get Zero done today now due to drool dreaming …. Thanks from a
09WRX driver
