OK, same motor on a 2006 Baja, WAY less room in engine compartment. No room to do anything, the coils were a pain in the ass. You need the hands of a five year old with the strength of a gorilla. Good video though.
One thing to note – NGK themselves don’t use anti-seize on the threads and Subaru doesn’t recommend it either. Thanks for the video – really clear instructions and good annotations.
Do you live in America? Here in nz that’d work out to 40-50 🙂 But the point remains. Considering how often it needs to be done it really isn’t a big hassle
Yup exactly. the set and forget iridium plugs are pretty damn durable these days. you might pay like $40-50 a plug but it’s worth every cent when you consider how long they last.
another reason to switch to a evo? Takes about 15 minutes to install plugs lol and subys handle so much better and have that sound that an evo can never have. I like evos but nothing compares to an sti suby that actually looks and is a rally car.
Ohhhh, that’s where the spark plugs are! (LOL) Seriously tho, what a helpful video. Looking forward to putting in some quiet time in under the hood, lol.
I think 10 minutes is a gross underestimation mate. But yeah it’s just something you deal with if you want to own a subaru. Definitely not a deal breaker in my opinion.
if I was loaded a lambo for the weekends and a heavily modified sleeper 11 sti wagon. not a fan of current line up looks, your comparison of porsche on subaru is insane, compare them to Volkswagen would be more accurate. Porsche is only good and I only respect porsche because of the small form factor. fun to drive. not to own,
porsche took the boxer design from BMW. and toyota used it before porsche as well. when porsche first built a boxer in ’64 it broke in the majority of cars it went into. subaru built the EA in 66 which lasted in production until the mid 90’s. its easy to tell which is a more reliable maker. 😀 If money were no option i would still buy a Subaru over a porsche. I have a 02 wrx with stage 4 mods. costs less then a porsche, doesnt look like a beetle, and eats those things for breakfast
there is the 4 door porsche panemera.. I was relating the Subaru for taking Porsches Boxter engine design, basically a Subaru uses the same layout as a porsche, and old porsches with blown engines are suitable for a wrx/sti engine swap. I would rather have a 2013 991 turbo than a 2013 STI if the choice was mine and money was irrelevant. But money is an option so I drive a wrx swapped 1999 legacy, running a stage 2 tune. Best bang for my buck and lighter than any usdm turbo subaru produced
porsche’s cant seat 5 people. and have boot space. slight modifications to a wrx and they can out perform a porsche. Also i would rather have a lovely sounding wrx then have a beetle.
…gotta uninstall that damn Cobb induction box. Crap. Well, gotta be done. One step colder, here I come.
is this same as on 07/08 subaru impreza (non WRX,non STI)
If u don’t like subarus because of stuff like this, then u just don’t like working on cars. Period.
Ha,ha, hands of a five year old with the strength of a Gorilla , that sums it up perfectly dude!!! ….I’m using that one.

Did you even WATCH the video? 🙂 Probably not.
To change the spark plugs in a Subaru, you have to do it from under the car.
I change mines from under the car in my 2011 wrx. I believe is less time consuming
Yes it is the same on an 02 wrx
Anyone knows if this work the same on 02 WRX?
NIce and clear Thank you!
you could of at least shared the rumbling sound of your happy STI you selfish bastard! haha jk man great vid
I gotta change mine but I dong want to
Same engine layout as a Porsche – boxer engine duh. I have several cars 🙂
poor mans porsche ? you dont even have a car bitch
are the sockets/ same size for a 03 wrx ?
my 1G outback trained me good for this, now it’s time to buy a turbo forester.
i heard boxers arent to reliable but my friend said his boxers problem was the spark plugs and nothing else. is that it or is there more issues?
Nice guide…
Honestly this is the thing I hate the most about Subaru’s…
Thank you for this video! Now my WRX is running brand new NGKs! Good guide!=)
Easier maintenance? Evo’s are in the shop 75% of their life time.
All that work just to change some spark plugs LOL! I’ll stick to evos… Easier maintenance
Thanks for the Video my Brothers.
dont hate on the civics its not nice to compare them to a neon
Always hated this part about Subarus… Basic maintenance and engine rebuilds are not fun whatsoever.

Yeah, they’re about $30-35 each, but totally worth it. Gapped correctly they just go for ages.

True. With the correct plugs you only replace them every 85k or so, and that’s a lot of K’s, and a few years.
srt 4’s are not in the same catagory why are u posting… u should be posting in the same catagory as civics… not a rally car u idiot smh

Took me 2 hours on my 02 WRX. One of the worst things to replace on a Subaru, but you gotta hunker down and grin and bear it
Subaru,”Good luck! 🙂 “
Lol Goddddd damnnnn that’s a lot of steps.
Great video very helpful thanks
