The sensor pretty much IS the ECTS actually.
cool thanks man I went to advanced auto and they were like well its a
different part # and we dont stock it blah blah blah. I will go in and
educate them.
What are the symptoms of a bad TTS? How do I know if I need to change it
out?
Sorry I somehow missed you too o.o (stupid U-tube or gmail), but if the
gear slam doesn’t go away with the TTS replacement, you may have to dig
further into the tranny (valve body, selenoids, Input/Output shaft nuts) to
fix it Other than that it’s a feature of the TAAT to hold 3rd, especially
if you’re going up steep hills, running the A/C, and/or engine braking
assist. (unless of course overdrive doesn’t engage..)
I can’t believe it’s so easy to replace that sensor on a Saturn, with most
cars you have to remove the ATF pan and get your ass dirty and change
gaskets. Pretty awesome. How did you know your sensor was bad? Did you get
an engine light? I got a P0713
Did you know if it was bad before hand how did you diagnose.
as said, its a preventative maintenance thing.. on the other hand I’d get a
super intermittent loss of transmission followed by a p0731, and figured
this would be a good first place to start. so far I haven’t seen the code
yet… and don’t remind me, I get that kind of fun when I change the ATF
and filter on my grand marquis…
Is the ECTS actually the same sensor as the TTS? The local auto parts
stores don’t carry a TTS and from saturn fans.com looks like people are
saying they are the same.

My brothers sl-1 is shifting a little funny mostly in the 1-2 shift and I
decided this morning to just replace this sensor and see if it fixes the
problem. I figure get the stupid stuff out of the way checked charging
system, fuses, and this. He says it shifts better when it gets hot. I
describe it as a slam going into gear 1 into 2 and a hunt going back down.
And for some reason it like to hold 3rd when your on a highway until your
let off the gas.
Sorry it took me so long to respond (I was out), but glad to hear this

Interesting… you’d hear this out of autozone but I’ve never heard it out
of AAP
Yo. sorry I didn’t get to ya, and yes it costs about $15, about as much as
the ECTS. And if you’re getting funky trans shifts, etc it’d be a good time
to check the sensor and replace it.
I am guessing this is a very inexpensive part to replace, only about
$15.00? I will change mine out just to be safe. It could save hundreds of
dollars of transmission work in the future.
Just out of curiosity, why did you jack the car up? Looks like you could do
this flat on the ground without a problem if your bucket will fit under the
car without it being up.
As I said in the video, it was a tip by KingRex, a member of the SaturnFans
forums. However, in all fairness: * the old plastic sensors LOVE to fail
and crack when exposed to hot fluid over a period of time, hence why 98% of
S-series posts ALWAYS have ECTS somewhere in them * and not to mention I’d
get a SUPER intermittent (trips ~7-9 months) P0731 with a cold engine (it
usually went away on its own though). After reading how the TAAT works,
figured why not.
Yep, the TTS, ECTS, and IAT are one in the same. Ask the parts jockey for
an ECTS for your Saturn S-series based on your year/model and install.
Also, the Saturn Sl2 has a spin-on type transmission oil filter, similar to
the engine oil filter and it also has a transmission drain plug just like
your motor oil drain plug. It is so very easy to change the transmission
oil and transmission filter, just like a regular oil change for your car.
I didn’t jack the car, I ramped it up. 😛 But yeah, good tip all the same.
I’d still raise it in the air anyway, justin case you were going to do a
tranny fluid/filter R&R. which even though it can be done without doing it
at the same time you do the fluid/filter, it would be better so you can
have an easier time getting to the sensor. I believe there’s a richpin
