Were is the smoke coming from and is the p0133 back.

Elconquistador1979 says:

I flushed out system then filled up with water to run car turn on heater etc to continue flush. When i did this it appeared smoke was coming from the o2 sensor. This happened about 2 weeks ago and my scan tool showed po133 bank 1 sensor 1 so i replaced o2 sensor and is still smoking from what it that?

Elconquistador1979 says:

Thank you so much for replying you are rare in that you still reply to such old videos

richpin06a says:

Yes you can and it is what i did in this video to get a clear shot of the thermostat.

Elconquistador1979 says:

rich can i move ac compressor out of the way by just unbolting from bracket but leave hose attached?

L45V3G45 says:

huh… interesting. twist inSTEAD of shouting LOL

ballershanelle says:

@richpin06a what’s the best way to bleed the system for air if you have already refilled and been driving for a few months??
Someone suggested, I should bleed again for air since the needle moves past half mark and slightly over when sitting. before i flushed the system and added a new stat, the coolant mark stayed between 1/4 and the 1/2 mark. I know the 98 sl2 doesn’t have a bleed hole….

Joshua Spett says:

actually I realize now it is not alternator but an AC compressor that is in the way, and it has too many things on it to disconnect. What I got was PB bolt loosener and I bought a 3/8″ breaker bar, which might work better than a ratchet. the sc1 seems tighter and harder to work on than the regular saturn S. Well see what happens, I think the right tools I have now will help. thanks.

Joshua Spett says:

I have a 1995 saturn sc1 coupe, the problem I am having is that on my car the alternator sits right above the water inlet. any suggestions? looks like I have to take off the entire alternator. I can sort of reach it around the alternator to get to water inle, but I have a problem getting one of the bolts off the water inlet because it is hard to get any torque on my wratchet and it is easy to slip off. Please give me any advice,

richpin06a says:

I bet life is good now.

Jack Hoffman says:

Awesome walkthrough. Easy enough to replace the thermostat to cure my wife’s SC2. No heat in the dead of winter, now that thing gets TOASTY!!

richpin06a says:

The engine coolant temp sensor is the part that tells the computer when to turn on the fan.

oscar v says:

why is my car overheating? … the fan doesnt want to turn on and i thought it was just old but i switch it for a new one and its still not working could it be because of this or a bad connection?

Carlos Ramirez says:

My car keeps overheating in traffic and red lights so I am hoping this is it 🙂

richpin06a says:

I hope you have the SC for a very long time.If you live in the rust belt like me rust proof it ever year and it should be ok.
Important Update: Jan 2013 there will be a new richpin channel for all future videos.Richpin06a channel will be solely for all the Saturn lovers out there.Should be a lot of fun so stay tuned.

RYAN F says:

thank you once again…Rich… you really need to start selling your videos so we hav them for a lifetime.. normallu got some classic rock in the backround makes me feel like im at home I just do an instant replay you helped me buy a saturn 97sc2 for 1600 in ca had bad cps used walkthru best car I ever owned 2 years now

imuhprincessnow says:

Sounds like a sticky idle…..if you aren’t touching the pedals and the car is going faster than it is most likely that. goodluck

richpin06a says:

I use the 85 C and i am happy with it.

Buick Mackane says:

Thanks, I saw in the Saturnfans forums that everyone recommends a 195 degree thermostat to make your engine run hotter and for better fuel economy. I am thinking of going back to the 188 degree (85 celsius) just to keep the temps lower and relieve some initial pressure on the 18 year old cooling system (radiator) until the thermostat opens up. I was getting plenty of heat with the 85c thermostat and no problems.

richpin06a says:

The stock thermostat in the s-series is 85 C which comes out to 185 F

Buick Mackane says:

Would a lower temperature thermostat (185 degree) open sooner, let your engine run cooler and reduce initial back pressure to your hoses and radiator until it opens up? I am not sure I want to use a 195 degree thermostat due to the increase in pressure to the hoses, radiator and water pump until it opens.

richpin06a says:

The A/C compressor is above the housing but the thermostat can be changed with out removing it.

cylingd says:

This video is just what I needed for my Saturn S-series. What is the name of the part that is connected to the 2 open bolt holes (for brackets) above the water inlet. Can I replace the thermostat without removing that part, if not, hope you’ve got a video for removing that part – there are all sorts of metal piping connecting to it and that seem to be a much bigger chore that just replacing the thermostat.

oridleyi says:

Well by the time I drove to the parts store it seemed to have corrected itself. Check engine light was off, car felt normal, and the reader returned no codes. All I had done was disconnect the battery and pop off a couple spark plug cables to make sure I had the right socket..

Changed the plugs and cables anyway, so we’ll see what happens. Thanks for the reply! And thanks for all the videos, your channel is the first place I go to.

oridleyi says:

Ok it’s coming back as P0172 and P0172 pd, ‘system too rich bank 1’.

Just checked my records and woops, looks like I’m due for new spark plugs, so that seems like a good first thing to try. If you have any other ideas that would be great, but I’ll do that and let you know what happens.

richpin06a says:

The best way to proceed from here would be to retrieve the codes in the computer then we can make a better determination what the problem might be.

oridleyi says:

Could a stuck open thermostat cause the in-gear roll to be faster than usual? My 99 SL2 (222k miles) suddenly started idling rough, then about ten min later the hiccuping stopped but the check engine light came on and now the car moves faster than normal when you don’t touch the pedals. And, the temperature gauge barely moves, which made me think open thermostat.

So, I’m wondering if the thermostat is stuck open, could the engine working harder cause it to roll faster? Or maybe a trans problem

Omar Chisolm says:

@richpin06a I forgot the brand but i remember buying them from advan auto prts. this time im running with duralast from autozone. always something to be done. THANKS MAN.

richpin06a says:

Try a different brand hose this time as a lot of aftermarket parts are not that great.

Omar Chisolm says:

@richpin06a Hey rich i have other question. My rad hoses needs to be change because they getting fat BUT i change them before like a year and some change ago. is there a reson for this? Does these hoses last for only 1 1/2 years before they need changing? Should I replace thermastat?

Bidin afg says:

hi ichpin

i was speakin to u last night about my 00 golf 1.4 i removed the old thermastat and i put the new thermastat in some boiling warter to make sure it is ok. it opened but did not close and stuck open the same as old one. so can u pliz help why is that so?
