voltage rail is the 5 metal spikes where the power supply slides into… located near the power on button. with multimeter set to V for voltage. power saturn on. add black for ground then use test the other spikes one should read 9V or above, next spike down is 5V next is 3V.

if it reads foe example 8.25V, then 3.6V then 2.25V then that means a capacitor is sick… not sure which one im guessing replace the smaller capacitors first.

im just thinking hard here… if you have a multimeter test the voltage rail. may not be enough current feeding into the mainboard for the cd drive to spin. but enough to show something on the screen. in that case it might be atleast one electricalytic capacitor on the power supply with a slow leak. there is around 10 of them atleast. try replacing the smaller capacitors with the same uf ( microfarad rating) with the same unit of voltage or higher is good.

good luck let me know how it all goes.

I’m having an identical issue to that of gamecomparisons, any help?

gamecomparisons says:

I am trying to troubleshoot a US launch Model Saturn with the power supply mounted to the top of the plastic. I have swapped out two working CD assemblies and this unit will power on but the disk won’t spin and the laser will not show any movement. I visually checked the power supply for broken capacitors, and the fuse looks good, but don’t know how to check the varistor. Any tips would be welcome.
