google either of the places I listed in the description.
@pantyhouse lol u have to ring up sega and ask them,, haha nah it says
underneath the console !
I think the flux fumes made him Crazy lol
I checked my Saturn’s guts, and all signs point towards a 64-pin
motherboard, with the way it looks inside, and the fact that the metal
motherboard grill plate doesn’t properly align with the outside plastic
grill on the console case. My Saturn’s MB looks like yours, with the
arrangement of capacitors and all, so I think yours might be a 64-bit. Your
vid might just come in handy for my specific Saturn!
Racketboy has them in stock, I just ordered one today.
No, that requires the region switch mod.
hey man awesome vid the last 3 minutes where very informative.
I just bought a Japanese Saturn. Am i correct in saying you need to solder
to the 14th pin and can’t do the A to B bridge. Man it would be so much
easier your way. Do i pull the pin up or leave it as it is and solier?
I just did this with a model two with a 64 pin chip in it. All I get is the
normal menu with 2 red spheres. From what I red it means the ribbon cable
is loose. But I have the chip and cable inserted as tightly as possible. If
I put it back to normal it works fine. Dose any one know if there is a way
to get it to work, or is my system unable to work with this mod or is my
mod chip bad. Any input on how to fix it?
there are three versions of the model 2….. a 32 pin, a 64 pin, and a
sanyo board. The one in this vid is the 32 pin version. The 64 pin version
is nearly impossible to mod. The sanyo board version requires more skill to
mod.
so the action replay can play backups as well? i know it plays imports..cuz
i just got one the other day i just have to buy the imports now
The Bob Ross of modchips.
I did this as you showed and it worked!!! I never even touched a soldiering
iron in my life. LOL! So if I could do this then anyone can. I was like a
crack head trying to soldier it to. Hands all shaking. Anyway go see the
device I use to run your Sega Saturn at component 480I.
Wait a minute I do have an action replay cart. Dos that mean I can play
burned games with that??
@thatguyontheright1 Wait, u mean the condescending pricks who buy these
games off of people for 5 bucks and then sell them to other people for
$30-$60 despite missing the manual? I feel so awful for doing that and
thank you for pointing it out. /sarcasm. In all honesty most “Retro Game”
shops are a rip-off ,making up BS stories about why they are charging Mint
price for a bad condition item. They always cite “Oh, it’s rare” like ur an
idiot and doing this for the first time.
Why didn’t they press the board with B and A connected? Makes no sense.
nope, gotta have a modchip to play backups. You would be better off with
just a modchip as you can switch the region and burn it as a US game.
Honestly I dont see any lag with none of my systems with my setup.
LMAO, you’re sick man :p. Feel like sending me your old broken one 😀 7:00
to 10:02 just open, no video lol.
So I installed my chip I just bought. I’ve only soldered once before, and
that was a few days ago. This took me maybe 10 minutes, it’s that easy.
Thanks for the video!
oh god its tight thats what he said
What is the model number?
@Yoshibirdofan123 Model No.: MK-80000A
oh yeahh!
how can you knwo what model of saturn u had?
I actually did end up going with the Sega Style chip. It was pretty much
the same as the Racketboy one. I was wrong all along, we both have 32-pin
systems. Anyways, installing was a cinch (was nervous since I hadn’t
touched a soldering iron since forever). But it all worked out in the end,
and it’s pretty awesome playing these exclusives. Thanks for the tut by the
way, it helped greatly
yeah, my best friend had a Sega Saturn from the “first batch” & I had a
Sony Playstation 1 (back then, Circuit City, where I bought it called it
“PSX” on the Receipt…I still have the damn receipt) Neither of us needed
mod chips when CDRW drives started to come around…copied and import games
just worked…
this looks dangerous as hell lol
great vid, hopefully I can pull it off too!
@eeemaster Yeah, that’s why stupid ISO sites get taken down cause SEGA, or
any other gaming company request it. Apparently it’s still piracy. I don’t
understand either. I mean, paying $80 for a super rare game with the
profits NOT going to SEGA is rather stupid. It’s one thing I’ll never get
my head around.
I don’t see modding a Saturn/burning games for it as piracy as the
developers nor Sega make any money off it (unless there is some super
secret Sega store that still sells games & gives money to the devices who
are likely out of business/gobbled up) but rather are simply giving your
money over to someone, who is likely an asshole who’s overcharging you for
a used game! LOL. Great Video. I gotta check if mine is a Model 2 or not :S
爛死了啦! 。
hehe. Nice info Didn’t know it was that simple.
Only one I own.
Why do you have to bridge points A and B? Is that only the case for model 2
Saturns?
You can mod any of them now.
This video makes me feel sexy
Now that everyone has come to agreement that SS model 1 has oval buttons
and SS model 2 has round buttons… could anyone explain what other
differences are between both systems, pros and cons, and if this mod is
specific only to model 2 and why? Thanks for any help or enlightenment…
and thanks Alec for this vid and keeping the Saturn community alive.
What is soddering?
Definitely the Model 2 if you plan on chipping. It’s VERY difficult to
find/afford a chip for the model 1… otherwise it’s a lot of work to get
the common model 2 chips to work.
@Richardwlester ?
As long as you have this particular model and cd-board (32 pin chip), yeah.
Otherwise, there’s some mods you have to do to the chip, which aren’t too
bad. basically you have to cut the chip down to size for the model 1s (and
maybe another variation, can’t remember) and rewire a couple pins. Not so
easy for those, hah!
If you can find a Model 2 easily (shouldn’t be hard) and more importantly,
locate someone selling mod chips (I don’t know who still has them in stock
these days), I would go with that route. Much less effort. Just pop-in and
enjoy!
I plan on buying a saturn.Which one do you think is better?Model 1 or 2.I
heard model 1 you can swap trick easier but I heard swap trick may
eventually damage the Saturn’s motor. And the Model 2 is harder to swap
trick but easier to mod.
