I’ve had the broken model 2 for years and figured I’d finally take a crack at fixing it when I got a broken model 1 that seemed very similar. As it turned out, the lids are different in exactly the way that matters. If Sega changed it to prevent this problem, well, it obviously didn’t work. 😉
Anyway, they’re fixed now… and I didn’t even need to break out CAD like I was expecting to do. Here’s a somewhat-repetitive video that goes over both fixes using household items.
Yes, the white Saturn was ¥780 at Super Potato in Akihabara, Tokyo (~$7.10 USD):

Looks like my twin brother uploaded a short video demonstrating this problem a decade ago:

I was struggling with lid repair for mine seen this video took me 5 mins cheers mate
Hello, I was dizzy and tripped over hitting my saturn. The lid button doesn't push down so the lid doesn't lock. I removed the lid and there's the part that latches the door open and closed only seems to reach the latch to lock it when the lid is facing up or upside down. Do you have any idea how to go about working with this? Thank you.
My console only recognizes the led closed if I hold the internal mechanism with my hand. Otherwise it doesn't recognize most games (even though some of them run)
What can it be?
I use a modchip that works fine on another console, and original games are working fine
Can you tell me hoy you reassembly the open button in the model 1? I have like 5 hours trying to do it but I can't figure out how or where is all the parts placed. 🙁
Nice fixes =D
Another great repair.. like always… dunno why you don't get so many comments
