Im replacing the valve body on a 98 saturn sl1. It has the very hard reverse slam and foward shifting It very hard as well. I am relapcing it with a valve body we bught with the sonix upgrade a few years ago for her other saturn. Only took about an hour to re
Ay Wayne Thanks Buddy, for the Vid! Couple questions though, I bought 5 used / tested solenoids for my 96 SL2, when I got them, I tested also 5.0 all the way across, the reason I bought them,, had an issue with blowing my filters off, + slaggy shifting ( sometimes jumping from 2nd to 4th ) Didn't get any codes pop up for trans… figured it to be the high pressure solenoid.. anyway I figured since I was taking the cover off I would just replace all the solenoids at one time… job went fine, but not exactly sure I got the re-learn down, warmed up, foot on brake shifted into drive back to reverse back to drive and so on,,, aprox 6 or 8 times…?? now to add to my issue my exhaust pipe rusted through on the back side flange of the cat, causing me to loose some power + I think it causing my trans to down shift kind of hard coming to a stop… Any opinion?? Could you confirm the Re-learn procedure as well?? I will hopefully be repairing the pipe soon,, Have a new one..( Just have to make time to install) otherwise the engine runs good! Thanks Will
I recently bought a 98 Saturn with similar clunky shifting in forward gears but reverse hardly works at all without revving engine to high rpms, in your opinion would a valve body replacement help or even possibly cure this issue? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated i saved the car from the crusher for only $350 and it is in super nice condition all accept for the transmission problem….thanks for the video very informative.
Wayne, great video. I need to replace the valve body on my 02 SL2. Do you have a video of the adaptive relearning process for the shift points on the Saturn? Thanks!
i have a 95 sl1 and most of the time it slams into reverse. So usually I have to wait 4 seconds for the transmission to shift into reverse just a mild jolt. But when I move forward it shifts fine just every once in awhile it sputters alittle bit when I'm driving but not much. Just a mild jolt. Is the valve body causing my transmission to react that way?
Thank you, and well done. I'm planning on checking out the Chilton manual from a library, but for others, is there a specific bolt pattern for tightening and a specific torque?
Very helpful Thanks!
Nice work,,,,,,,,,,,,nice video. Good job. I just learned something about those.
That was interesting and great tip to hold a bolt for hard to reach places. I resorted to using grease once to hold the bolt In the socket long enough to get it started and then I had a greasy mess to deal with, I like your tip much better.
Nice informative video Wayne. Thanks for sharing.
smart to have a transmission filter….good job Wayne
excellent idea with the socket/bolt/paper towel, thanks…
