William Birdwell says:

I have a question, my 1996 sl2 is stuck in first only somtimes. It will go
into second and sometimes third… Do you think a bad valve body could be
the cause?
The fluid is clean and dose not smell burnt or have any dabre in it.

Chris Mize says:

Well, After some time and effort plus $40.00 the 2001 Saturn is back
running smooth. I thank you for all your help and assistance.

bigslick4life says:

Hi I really am close to removing the whole thing one question that is
concerning me is the rod that drops and your hear that clunk noise when I
put my new vavle body on do I have to position the rod in a certain waybor
do I just put the new vavle body right ontop and start bolting it on or do
I have to put the rod back to the way it was very it dropped please explain
very important ?

noproblema50 says:

Nice to know that is all that works the transmission of a Saturn Ammco
shops in Florida wanted $3000 to rebuilt mine plus the cost of Parts I
can’t beleave you can do it your self Thank you so much for posting this
video I hope more people do this

Chris Mize says:

Sir, I have a 2001 Saturn SL1 and with your videos I have pulled the main
wiring to transmission and realized the connector shows evidence of where
it burned on two connectors. I will pull the pan and check the solenoids.
What would cause the two connectors to get hot ?

Ryan Davidson says:

Is there something that can go wrong with the valve body besides the
solenoids? If they all test out okay, is it still possible you need to
replace the valve body?

ares04 says:

I installed a new valve body in my saturn but now I can no longer shift
into reverse. Do you know what the cause of the problem might be?

FiremanCV says:

@tuknn20s No Problem 🙂 If ya need anything else, Don’t hesitate to ask 🙂

jacklinane says:

Great video’s, lot of info. At the end of video 2 you rotated gears till
you heard a click and pushed in some kind of plunger. Could you explain
what you were doing? Thanks

MrJab4309 says:

is the Valve Body the same for a 96 SL2??

Joseph Montoya says:

I have no idea how my dad did that but I really appreciate the help thank
you so much

Omar Chisolm says:

@firemanCV y ur master cylinder looks so far away from the pan? mine is
madd close even with it loose.

ares04 says:

The vehicle itself won’t move into reverse. Before installing the new vb,
it could go into reverse with a loud clunk. When I shift into reverse, the
car slowly rolls forward and thats with the original vb installed. My car
has an auto tranny btw. Also I didn’t test the new vb before installing.

MultiSpoonieluv says:

my sl1 slips when put into drive then slams into gear… when on the
freeway it drives fine but it slips during stop n go traffic.. wtf is goin
on??

FiremanCV says:

@jazikids Yes, I am going to post installation videos of valve body in
about a week, had injury, or I would post sooner.. If you test your
solenoids like in the video, it’s easier than removing the whole valve
body.. I was told 90% of the time, the solenoids are the problem.. Lookup
on utube, the user “tspoof” He also shows replacing solenoids without
removing the valve body..

Lee Edward says:

Does the procedure you showed in this video apply to the 1994 Saturn SL1?

Darrell Anderson says:

Thank you very much for this post! I just did the swap and everything went
exactly as you said . . . the ‘Satty’ is fixed . . . runs great! I have a
2000 SC2 I hope you injury heals quickly and there is minimal pain! Cheers
=D

junechris says:

Is this the same valve body on a 1995 sl2?

olseadog says:

Thanks for the video. It gave me the confidence to replace my valve body. I
made sure to buy a good one with the SANAX kit rebuild. It seems these cars
all have the pressure solenoid which fails. The kit that Ken uses is the
trick. This weekend I’m tackling the intake manifold gasket replacement
(and since I’m in there… a new serpentine belt, AT Filter and throttle
body cleaning. All the best.

Fullforce LTX says:

@omarG19100 U have ABS

CB Yond says:

Excellent Videos, Thanks For Posting. I Have A ’97 Saturn SL1 That Gets A
Periodic P0733 – Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio Code, Sounds A Lot Like Solenoid
Failing. I Clear It And It Goes Away For A While Then Comes Back. Any
Thoughts? Thanks -CB

FiremanCV says:

@anddarrell Happy to hear that your saturn runs great… The kind comments
motivates me to make more videos… The good thing about working at a
salvage/repair shop, I can make videos for about anything, lol I will be
posting engine & transmission removal without an engine hoist down the
road, as well as fuel pump replacement, head replacement & more.. Again..
Thanks for the kind comments

beak6363 says:

@FiremanCV Well I cleared the codes again by unhooking the battery over
night. I have drove the car some with no problems yet. The engine light has
not came back on either. I haven’t drove it on the highway yet though. The
place I bought the used valve body from said you are supposed to get going
to 45 mph and then push down on the gas until it down-shifts and then do
the same thing at 30 mph. They said to do that 3-5 times. I haven’t did
that this time.

FiremanCV says:

@omarG19100 It’s on there tight. It won’t break, pull straight off..

bonzo1971 says:

Well, I just finished this on my 2002 sl2 with 174,000 miles. It was a bit
harder because the pcm was mounted on the battery holder..and just
generally in the way. Our slam was bad..worst from 3 to 4th and rough going
into reverse. Now it is great. I was ready to junk the car, but for $110
I’m back on the road. Thanks a million!

Richard day says:

thank you so much for making the video and answering questions, it help me
out so much

FiremanCV says:

@hajjar2011 Look on saturnfans website for reverse cure… I suggest you
test all your solenoids.. Takes less than 5 minutes. Look at my other
videos on how to do this.. You can be sure 1 of the solenoids can be
faulty. I have never seen a the bands in the transmission let go. Before
replacing the entire valve body or testing the solenoids visit the website
for the reverse slam cure. Check fluid levels as well. When is last time
you changed out the fluid & filter ? Let me know 🙂

FiremanCV says:

@scmacv On the back of the valve body will be a sliding piece of metal with
plastic on the end of it.. The piece of plastic will have a hole in it.
This is where you will put the rod that drops off. It will only go in one
way, so don’t force it.. Give me a few days, will be making a complete
descriptive video showing this..

ItsAlysiuhh says:

My 99 Saturn SL1 goes into reverse when it wants, sometimes it will
slightly roll forward. I know my map sensor has to be replaced already but
could this be the cause of my reverse problem? If not should I try
wolfman’s reverse cure/replacing my valve body?

Omar Chisolm says:

@firemanCV The wire u pulled up at 1:17. what is that. i tried pulling it
up but mine seems hard to come off. i dont want to break it.

FiremanCV says:

what model & year saturn do you have?

FiremanCV says:

Did you check range selector switch? Also, all forward gears & no reverse
usually is input shaft nut problem 🙁 Did you look on saturnfans website?
Let me know how you make out 🙂

JUAN BELTRAN says:

I NEED HELP.. I HAVE A SATURN 2001 SL, THE PROBLEM IS THAT DONT WORK THE
REVERSE…. WHAT I HAVE TO CHECK OR DO?….

Iseekoutthetruth says:

where can I get a new pan gasket from and replacement solenoids from?

FiremanCV says:

@jrmrabbitnose how the heck did you do that??
makcotransmissionpartsdotcom/Saturn-TAAT Click link at top, will open up a
pdf file. Look at far bottom right of page. Internal shift linkage rod # 991

james carmickle says:

what do you do when the bolt that says do not remove has been removed

ii311hive says:

Sorry its been a couple of months. I tried the “simple steps” but It turns
out I would be spending more money on each individual solenoids when I
could just buy a reman on ebay. I purchased it on Sunday and it arrived
today. Thanks to your vid and step by step instructions I was able to knock
it out In just a few hours. So far so good. Thanks man, you ROCK!

hajjar2011 says:

FiremanCV, I want to thank you very much for this video – it is very
helpful. Im having problem with reverse. I can shift the car into reverse,
but it doesn’t engage and move the car backwards – It will only engage in
the morning when I first start the car. I can go forward without a problem.
Based on the blogs, it seems like there could be a problem with the valve
box. Should I replace the whole box or try an identify the solenoid (i
assume it could be a solenoid.) Thanks a lot!

Omar Chisolm says:

@firemanCV thanks man.

Joseph Montoya says:

hello your video was very helpful but I had a question about my 93 saturn
sl2. When reconnecting the rod that “clanks” the bolt that goes into the
hole of the sliding shaft snapped in half and was hoping your could give me
the name of the part so i can purchase a replacement. Thank you so much
