Saturn Astra Powered Subwoofer Install (Infinity Basslink)

My installation of an Infinity Basslink Powered subwoofer in a 2008 Saturn Astra. I tried to show all of the steps in the install, as it would have taken me …

what does it sound like?????

joseluisdm says:

How did you fix the basslink unit into the trunk?

2fast4all says:

Did you forget the remote wire?

UltrakupraRebirth says:

very clean installation dude,good job!

sandsedge says:

Yeah, it doesn’t provide dual 10″ pounding bass, but I think it is a
massive improvement over stock, and even most “premium” factory options
which cost a load of money ($600 on the Astra, and you still don’t get a
sub for that)

ProfessorK100 says:

Why did you pick the bass link 1 over the 2? The 2 seemed like a better
deal to me.

Gilles81 says:

sounds great… o wait you did not even show us that is actually works good
job.

Briguy1027 says:

sandsedge — there is a fuse on the back of the basslink — is there also a
fuse in-line with the power cable from the battery? I have an older
basslink that doesn’t work right now and was trying to troubleshoot it.
Thanks for your response in advance — great video.

I have the Opel version of this car, and this video was very helpful when
installed my stereo. So a big thank you for making this 🙂

sandsedge says:

@123ct456 if you mean does the Infinity Basslink take a speaker level input
or a line level input the answer is either.

zbstr611 says:

can you use this for in home theater system?

sandsedge says:

@pioneer7777777 Right, you got it. And I’m not so sure that tapping into
the rear speakers gives the purest sound. Somewhere online I read that the
CD30 in the Saturn Astra has a low pass filter on the rear speakers, so
only frequencies above a certain frequency are allowed through. In most
cars, there isn’t a low pass filter on the speakers going into the doors
(that I know of).

sandsedge says:

No issues at all. In the wire channels, the power wire is running parallel
to the speaker wires for the length of the cabin.

Josh Foret says:

the reviews on the basslink 1 are MUCH better than 2. 2 seems to have alot
of issues.

Sam says:

Have you had any problems with having the power cable so close to the
speaker wires? I’ve heard that can cause some issues because the speaker
wires can transmit static from the power cable.

sandsedge says:

@JakeOrvidas Something called a line tap or line splice. Available at Radio
Shack or any home improvement store.

redwolfsplatter says:

I just bought this sub. I got it off eBay (new) for $187.50, with free
shipping. Before I did,I ran it by Best Buy and they even said it was a
deal they couldn’t beat! It will be here tomorrow. So, I started looking
for some video on installation, and this guy’s video is the best I have
seen. I especially liked his duct-tape retrieval tool when he dropped a
kick-panel clip. There are always broken or lost clips if we are not
careful. -Chris

sandsedge says:

@JakeOrvidas The Radio Shack part is called “Wire Tap-In Squeeze
Connectors” 10 for $2.39. Good luck!

Elliott Alameda says:

cant you just use RCA cables to run from the sub to the headunit?

sandsedge says:

Neither an Infinity Basslink or a Saturn Astra are designed for in-home
use! 🙂 You’d want something like a JBL or Polk Powered Subwoofer.

TheMoparman94 says:

If it has a 20 amp fuse you should be using a 20 amp fuse in the fuse
holder, not a 25 or 40. The 25 and up wont blow but the one on the basslink
will so thats pointless without a 20 amp fuse.

sandsedge says:

The 1 was the ony thing available when I bought the basslink in 2004. I had
previously installed it in my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Jacob Orvidas says:

I am curious what was used to tap into the speaker wires? As far as
hardware goes.

trevonlovesciara says:

is it easy to hook up i can do door speakers but subs lol i aint trying to
try that…well im gettin that and new speakers but i want to get some that
match my sony deck so i wont need a amp for em

sandsedge says:

@trevonlovesciara No issues, still working great after almost 2 years.

sandsedge says:

@joseluisdm 2 Bungee cords using the factory tie downs. One of the sides of
the cords goes against the heat sink, but my heat sink never gets even
warm, as I don’t play the basslink very loud.

sandsedge says:

@MtnXfreeride good call! next time, I’ll hire a camera man! 🙂

hellohellohello3254 says:

Great job, man 🙂 You’ve filmed and explained everything really good.

sandsedge says:

@dirtdiggler1989 actually, I rewatched the video and I disconnected the
negative cable at about 30 seconds into the video. I know there looks like
there is a plus sign near the cable, and it looks redish, but that is the
negative terminal! The positive one has a black plastic flap covering it on
it and is closer to the cabin of the car.

sandsedge says:

@jasongrim Yes, of course, but you can’t do that with a factory head unit
in most cases. The RCA inputs to the basslink are shown at 22 seconds into
my video.

Justin Campanelli says:

Can you show how exactly you got the power wire through to the battery?

sandsedge says:

@Briguy1027 Yes, in my opinion, ALWAYS have an inline fuse as close to your
battery as possible. Always have a fuse on or close to any device down the
line (or on the device, as in the Basslink). If something shorts out either
accidentally or after normal wear and tear, it can mean the difference
between a simple popped fuse and a car fire. I have never had a problem
with my basslink in the 8 years I’ve had it, so I wouldn’t know the first
thing about troubleshooting-sorry!

trevonlovesciara says:

Have you had any problems with your so far??

futzbrain says:

@sandsedge where are you connecting the remote power on/off? I saw on a
wiring diagram that there is a pink wire from the head unit for a powered
antenna trigger. Will this work?
