Oh, come on. Don’t be a tight wod. Just go buy the proper impact wrench.
One pull of the trigger and mine came right off.
@RobertGary1 dont be a douche bag.
Man I am having the worst luck tryingto get mine off. timing is messed up
so it wont turn over and my engine makes a rattling sound…any ideas?
oh be really careful with this trick. VERY easy to bust the head off the
bolt. if that happens youll never get the bolt out even with easyouts. new
crank. good trick but dangerous.
Simple but a very good idea. It we call, using imagination to accomplish
things.
@mainejunker yeah I know right. I bet he’s probably one of those guys that
has every tool for the job.
@unimatrix666 I just did the same trick a few months ago because my 96 sl1
needed an oil pan. I had to bump it like 10 times for it to break free..
and as far as putting it back on – 1ft ext & use a breaker bar with a big
pipe!
Thanks for posting this, because you’ve proved it can be done without
damaging anything. I thought about it but dismissed it as madness!
I suppose I would if I could afford to go buy whatever tools I wanted any
time I needed them. But for now I’ll be a bit more conservative. Thanks for
your comment though.
@RobertGary1 impact wrench is for pussies.. lol
yeah…motor is junk
If trying to save a few bucks is so bad, why don’t you just take it to a
mechanic?
@RobertGary1 Only the most powerful impact tools will free this bolt. For
example, an Aircat 1200 (which costs $220) capable of 1200 ft lbs. of
torque. I built my own tool to hold the pulley while I freed the bolt with
a 40″ breakover cheated with a metal fence post. The tool can be built with
1/4″ steel stock and some grade 8 bolts. It’s fairly simple. This method is
not a good idea. Youtube is full of people who have done this and stripped
the bolt or destroyed tools.
This is a good method but how does one tighten it without it moving……
when i took the crank pully off my saturn i just locked the pully with BIG
flat head screw driver
neat trick didnt think of that when i took mine off. i put a extension
inbetween the pulley and the lower part of the block to prevent it from
turning
@Residence0fEvil try punching a horse in the face
