I tried this and one of the bolts sheared off. now i cant get the bolt out
and the drum is on an angle
great tip thanks
Too bad the Maruti 800/Old Suzuki Alto don’t have holes on the drum. You’re
forced to use an extractor (which i don’t have) or bang like a caveman with
the hammer, sucks that the thing still won’t come off.
Great video
Personally, I remove drums by taking the brake off. The shoes don’t hold
the drum.
I silicone grease that lip, both on the drums and on the shaft before
reassembly..goes for disk brakes also
Yes. when I was first starting, I heard that mysterious sucking sound
behind me, where the wallet is.
Thanks Eric! I just got stuck in garage at this point. I ran into my room
checking it out on YouTube. Your clip really help me remove the drum.
Cheer!
Lol this was the chunky Eric with a pony tail. Your the man and as
always….stay dirty
I have found using a pry bar and hammer works well, when you don’t have the
threaded holes. Get the pry bar between the dust shield and the drum and
tap the side of the drum with a hammer from the opposite side.
Awesome channel btw
good vid!
just wanting to ask you , i installed some slotted rotors on my car and
they are making a clicking sound , any ideas? braking is not affected only
noise. no feedback thru steering either
thanks in advance
speaking of sucking sounds … I have the hardest time bleeding brakes, a
one person operation
Thank you Eric! And I am glad that someone remembers that when referring to
a specific quantity, a couple is defined as two. If someone lives in a
place where a couple is three or four then their family structure is
probably very strange. Awwwww, there goes a happy couple! lol.
for anyone that cares the bolts are free at the dealer ..was for me anyways
Thank you. I need a drum to build a forge. now I will go to the local scrap
yard and pull one off a truck.
A good tip is to put your lug nuts back onto the studs before you hit it
with a hammer. That way if you tag a stud, it’s protected by the lug nut.
ive never met a drum my sledge cant break free but i have had issues with
shoes that were so worn in that the drum has a ridge that catches on them
and some cars dont have a access hole that allows you to turn them down
then your screwed haha
Awesome !!!! Thanks
Totally does not work on Dodge which has no such “pussy” holes for removal
The Best & Eassiest method is using Rubber Mallet instead of a metal hammer.
If this method failed after several attempts you need to replace the drum
because it is probably below the minimum thickness. You just need to adjust
it down & tap it again.
mine didn’t have the holes so I used my 16 lb maul and tapped it a few
times and off she came, thanks so much
it turns out the axle bolt held this drum on, i never seen on like it
before but hey whatever works right lol
Take it to Midas or another chain auto repair place for an “estimate to see
if you need to do the brakes on all four wheels”. They will use their
professional drum puller to pull the drums to see if the rear shoes are bad
[like they would EVER say they are still in good shape!] Thank the nice man
profusely and promise to return when you get paid. Go home/do brake
job/DRILL & TAP two 8×1.25 holes in each drum so you’ll have them for the
next brake job…
8mm IS metric. I’ve done this with my Honda.
Duh!
Thnx! , haven’t seen that coming.
