Ray Alvarado says:

Why didn’t you remove the upper hose before pulling the fan? would have
made it easier. Also is this a standard? on a automatic transmission do the
trans lines connect to the radiator?

spineblaZe says:

Thanks for this!

Altobellodobermans says:

I have a 2002 sc1 will it be the same proceedure Rick?
Oh thanks for your videos Rick.. I’m a female and like the visual
directions.
Good job!

Brian McNeel says:

Going to try and swing this tonight, weather permitting. Thank you richpin,
you rock!!!

Darren Rice says:

Hey rich! problem solved! used one of my dads tools..it was like one of
those adjustable grip wrenches with the teeth all over it..couldnt get the
flare to go either..maybe not enough elbow grease cuz my dad got it off
lol..but thanks for the reply..with the radiator in..it seems to run much
more powerful and responsive than before..i noticed take off was better..is
this a lasting effect..or just the newness of it? =]

richpin06a says:

Are you using a flare wrench on the fittings.

Darren Rice says:

Richpin!! I’m trying to replace my radiator and I can’t figure out how to
remove the transmission lines from the radiator..can you suggest what I
need to do?

richpin06a says:

What have you checked on it so far.

mad1o says:

im having the same problem 04 ion 2 sedan fan not coming on and i kno its
getting hot enough because its overheated more than once and all the times
the fan was not on

richpin06a says:

My #1 guess would be a cracked end tank on the radiator and my next guess
would be a top radiator hose.

John Beaver says:

I have a 97 sc2 and have a coolant leak on the driver side under the air
filter. any ideas? Thanks

arcadipane28 says:

I desperately need a new radiator for my saturn sl2 !!! does anyone know
any place where I can get one for less than $100 is what their asking here.
I still can’t believe all it is one big filter … and they want $100 plus
labor.. I’ll do it myself.. but it has to get done asap!!! please if anyone
knows where I can get a Good Quality radiator let me know. I’m thinking
autozone… let me know please and thank you. <3

Omar Chisolm says:

@richpin06a i need a new radiator but i was looking to getting one off
ebay. the one that i want says its from a manual car 98 saturn sl1, but it
can still fit my car though its automatic. he said this radiator dont have
the oil cooler though. will this be a good buy? will it make a big differ
being that this radiator dont have the oil cooler?

richpin06a says:

This car had a standard transmission. With a automatic the lines can be
difficult to remove from the radiator. Some people like to remove them from
the transmission first which is easier then remove the other end after it
is out of the car.

richpin06a says:

Is the engine getting hot enough for the computer to turn the fan on.What
temp readings are you getting.

richpin06a says:

On a Saturn S-series there are two transmission cooler lines that screw
into the battery side of the radiator.

Scott Lyons says:

Love is a battlefield at the end. I nostalgia’d

richpin06a says:

The fan will come on around 226 deg which is a little pass half way on the
temp gauge.

richpin06a says:

@MedCityProductions Using a Flare Wrench will greatly reduce the risk of
rounding the fittings on those lines.

generatrix999 says:

Was changing coolant and noticed the cross member frame support is pitted
w/rust from radiator blow by. Heaviest rust is right around the fan
opening. You need to remove the fan/shroud to gain access to the whole
cross-member piece for treatment. I’m tempted to spray w/under coat, but
considering just wrapping with flashing tape after treating. Good idea?
That way if rust reappears, I can just remove tape and treat again.
Undercoat is messy stuff, almost impossible to remove.

SickOfReality says:

So on my battery side, I have two metal hoses, one on the bottom of
radiator and one just under my top hose that leads to motor. My top metal
hose is spraying out. What does that hose lead too so I know what I am
losing. I believe it is coolant cause it was green leaking out, and the
coolant I added was green. So what is that part called and where does it
lead so I can replace. I am new to car work, sorry.

richpin06a says:

Just one bolt.

dakotarazzle says:

pkiddddd says:

Thanks a lot sir. Saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks!

richpin06a says:

@crackertroy I just posted a full video on radiator removal for the Saturn
s-series if you need one.

Theo Sakoutis says:

Don’t the transmission cooler lines attached to the plastic on the side of
the radiator have to come out?

DirtyDred10 says:

About to remove the radiator on a 1999 SL1 this video is perfect!!!!

richpin06a says:

If you look carefully at the clamp you will see it is a spring clamp with a
lock that holds it in the open position.

richpin06a says:

My Stimulus Check to you….lol

RYAN F says:

if you check all the likely sources with no luck try checking for a small
leak on pass side as well only while running one funny thing happened to me
the water would leak then run along the frame all the way to the back of
the motor but it was the water pump rich has an incredible walkthru for
water pump of course check this very last rich is usually on the money

crackertroy says:

Thank you! Keep posting videos on Saturn S-series repair please. Thank you,
thank you, thank you!

SickOfReality says:

Hmm, might just need to replace whole radiator, leaking coolant near my
transmission cooling lines..

moissxz says:

hey your video was great! But, you forgot to show when you disconnect the
metal hose that transfer transmission fluid in and out.

aclaybor1 says:

I will be replacing the radiator and thermostat on my 1997 SL1 this
upcoming weekend. You didn’t mention anything about the transmission cooler
lines. Are they difficult to replace?

crackertroy says:

Radiator done

soad2237 says:

You forgot the part where you remove the radiator.

junito96 says:

thank you THANK YOU!!

richpin06a says:

This car had a standard transmission so there were no cooler lines to the
radiator.

Mycroft Ward says:

nice bro what about a 2nd gear change lol my reverse is out. can’t even rev
it to 4.5 rpm.

JAIME ARTEAGA says:

leak and it wouldent leak do you think the radiator fan moter is the
problem i need help !!

Graeson Sage says:

Ernest Foote says:

Rich, this was extremely helpful. Thank you!

Badboykilla96 says:

question?? i have a 2002 Saturn SL1 which is pretty much tha same as this
video, i have a anti-freeze leak, at first i thought it was a head gasket
leak, but then when i saw tha antifreeze leak from tha bottom of tha car i
knew that wasnt it, then i changed tha bottom hose cuz i thought tha leak
was comin from there but still NO! n theres no sign of leakage at tha top
hose, so this leaves me to believe it has to b tha radiator thats leakin????
